NOLA: Monaco or W?

We're going to New Orleans in two weeks, and have double reservations (Hotel Monaco and the W New Orleans on Poydras). Need to cancel one of the reservations.

My wife and I are in our 40s, if that makes a difference (i.e., too old for the W's target market?).

Thanks.

Jim

I personally will stay at ANY Monaco hotel if it is in a city I am go to...

Awesome hotels, wine and chesse in the afternoon..GORGEOUS interiors that are decidely different from the norm..

Ask to have your Pet for you stay delivered to your room--A gold fish!!

It's a hip hotel and very efficient!

I've never stayed at either in NO, but while I generally like Monacos, there are some negatives (and again, this can vary from place to place)==some rooms are VERY small, not enough room to turn around in. Also, they are "boutique" hotels, and as such sometimes don't offer the extent of services as some other hotels. Depending on how long you'll be staying, and what you are looking for, I would prefer the W, as I think they are a bit more luxurious and full service.

I stayed at the Monaco a few years ago and really liked it. That was the best bed I've ever slept in! The rooms are very small but also very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful and it wasn't much of a walk over to the French Quarter (I believe a street car stop is close by too). I think y'all would like it.

zooey- Just a heads up..Just because the Monaco Hotel is a boutique hotel does NOT mean it is lacking in services..

It is totally a full service hotel with 24 hr room service, full health club, concierge and a great restaurant/bar called Cobalt...

Here is the website:

I can't help you with the W but there's a pretty good discussion of the Monaco on a thread labeled New Orleans Hotel and Cajun Country which I just topped for you.

Thanks all.

One thing I forgot to ask: Does the fact that the Monaco allows pets mean that the rooms smell like dogs of guests past?

No- none of their rooms in any of their hotels ever smelled like pets...never..

No, i've never experienced that either.
