NOLA Bachelorette Party in August?
 

Is a Bachelorette party in New Orleans sometime in late Summer just nuts? The bride-to-be has always wanted to visit NOLA and I, as Matron of Honor, thought there would be no better place to have a party for her. Unfortunately, she's getting married early September so the bachelorette festivities would need to take place in the summer months, I guess. I've visited in February and fell in the love with the city and want her to have the same experience :) Perhaps, June isn't quite as muggy and hot....what do you think?

It's going to be pretty warm, but June would probably be better than later in the summer. May I suggest the Ramada Inn on Bourbon for one heck of a place to stay? Spring for at least one Bourbon Street balcony room and hang on - the fun comes to bachelor/bachelorette parties at that hotel!!

To me NO in the summer is just unbearable - I find it plenty hot enough in the winter. But - it depends on how each of you feel about really hot/humid weather

IMO it would be totally unbearable. If you want to plan it months prior to the wedding -- more doable. But June-Sept -- I'd send regrets even if I was IN the wedding party.

I'm with Janis - the hottest I've ever been in my life (and I've been in Egypt in August) was New Orleans in late July.

Horrible, horrible! Normally, I love New Orleans, but I've been twice in August and it was so hot and humid I had trouble catching my breath. I've lived in the South nearly all my life and am used to temps over 100, but NO is just plain awful in late summer.

LevAmus,correct me if I am wrong, but it can be 100% humidity in Minnesota in July & August. Give me a break. And Arizona or Vegas or Miami....other destinations for a Bachelorette party? Same thing! Do NOLA and do it right! Recommendations - stay at the Hotel Monteleone. They have a roof top pool to cool of in! Rent the VIP School Bus for a bar crawl and get everyone a Drink Deck for New Orleans! Check em out and do NOLA!

I have lived in MS all my life. NOLA is about 3 hours from my home. I love NOLA in the summer. All the bars and restaurants as well as shops have great AC. It is hot. Dress for hot weather. Wear shorts and flip flops in the day and dress up at night when you visit the great restaurants there. Stay in the FQ. Dine at Galatoire's, Emeril's, Bayonna, Stella, Mr. B's or Muriel's. It gets hot in Upstate NY in the summer. Enjoy your trip.

Well said, Littleman. Yes, it's hot in New Orleans.com. It's also less crowded and less expensive in the summer months -- you'll find rooms in great French Quarter hotels for next to nothing, get into restaurants that are always jam-packed at other times of the year, and experience New Orleans without the crush of tourists. It's air conditioned/comfortable EVERYWHERE you go (except outside). I can think of no better place to throw down for a bachelorette party than the Big Easy.

It's all about dressing right and letting the good times roll. Besides, humidity is good for the skin! :)

Bingo! All establishments are well air-conditioned. So I guess it depends on how much time you plan on spending outdoors.

Geez...I was 9 months pregnant in NO in August....but I managed just fine. I would think a bunch of young/relatively young ladies - able to imbibe in some fun drinks - would be just fine!

I'm from the deep south & it's all the same as far as heat/humidity. Toured NOLA with a French friend in August only because that was the month he was visiting. And, yes, no one's saying you can't have a good time there any time of the year. Only that there ARE better times & this is my least favorite.

Besides, imbibing just make me feel hotter. On the other hand, those frozen hurricanes ( the drink ) are REALLY good when it's hot.

So, if it's a choice of now or never, then do it now. If it's the 'flavor' of NO you've just got to have, do it now - there's no place like it! If not, do it at a cooler time.

That said, one of my young nieces who's fiance' was a grad of LSU carried the NO theme into her wedding reception, complete with the free bar & the Saints Go Marching in line/dance/march all around the huge reception rooms (indoor & out) lead by the band in very comfortable weather.

Thank you all for the comments! A final decision has been made by the bride-to-be....and it's New Orleans! However, we are combining the celebration with her birthday for an early May visit (the weekend after Jazz Fest) and hopefully better weather. Now let the fun of planning begin!

Great - You won't be sorry! Right now there's a group of almost 60 folks from another web site having a get-together in NOLA at about the same time so we'll be watching out for you *wink*. Again, I'd suggest contacting the Ramada Inn on Bourbon for a wonderful hotel in the middle of the action of the French Quarter!!
