NOLA: Arnaud's or Antoine's?
 

DH & I are traveling to NOLA in mid-June. We'll be on a tight time line & are trying to squeeze in as much as possible. This is my first trip to NOLA & I have heard amazing tales of the cuisine. We are considering an evening meal at either Arnaud's or Antoine's. Would you recommend one over the other? Or perhaps offer other options? We are pretty down to earth & not really into the "dress up for dinner" scene, but when in Rome... Would love any information you'd care to share!

Of those two, I'd chose Arnaud's every time. Having said that, I would probably pick Bayona, NOLA, K-Paul's, August or several others ahead of either one of them.

If you want an "old-line" historic restaurant, Arnaud's and Galatoire's are good choices.

There is no shortage of good food in New Orleans. So if you want the old-line traditional places, then go for it. But, since you said you are not really into the dress-for-dinner scene, just know that you can get some great food without having to dress up to eat it. There are good restaurants across the spectrum.

My husband and I are headed to New Orleans later this month as well, and this trip we are focusing our attention on good, inexpensive, casual restaurants. We enjoy both ends of the spectrum as far as restaurants go, but this trip we figure it will be hot and sticky, so no ties or shirts you have to tuck in for my husband - LOL.

Thank you for the information. There is SO MUCH to see & do in the NOLA area. Wish we had more time. Guess we'll just have to visit more than once.

On our first trip we spent 5 days in New Orleans, with a couple day trips outside the city. As we were leaving, literally the plane lifting off, we decided we would be coming back :)

I'd probably pick Arnaud's over Antoine's. But would also suggest Commander's Palace (one of our favorites), and Pascal Manale's (informal atmosphere, best BBQ shrimp ever - LA BBQ, not SW BBQ)

All the walking will balance out the food - don't worry :) The neighborhoods are really interesting, and esspecially in the French Quarter, the blocks are short, so you just walk along, not realizing how far you have gone.
