NOLA advance restaurant reservations...
 

We are headed to New Orleans during Jazz Fest. Our hotel sent us a note that they would make restaurant reservations; Feb. 15 is the 'cut off' date honoring this. My question: is it really necessary to have dinner reservations in advance. Have never visited New Orleans...thanks to anyone who replies!

If you want to eat at any of the famous places (Commander's Palace, any of Emeril's places, etc.) reservations are a must for extremely busy times such as Jazz Fest.

Eating is such a big part of the New Orleans experience. I always make reservations and then am careful to cancel as soon as I know we can't make it. Usually we keep the reservations, but the very popular restaurants never have a problem filling at the last so I don't feel guilty.So much good food........it would be a shame to miss out.

I would recommend reservations for dinner if you're looking for a meal at an upper scale establishment. My favorites are Court of Two Sisters and K-Paul's. At K-Paul's the upstairs is reservations only with entree's starting around $25. K-Paul's has a downstairs and it is first come first served, casual dress (shorts and tshirts okay) and community seating. It's menu has sandwhiches starting around $8 and entrees at $10. I highly recommend K-Paul's. Court of Two Sisters is wonderful and it has a Jazz Brunch (RESERVATIONS!) from 11am-3pm about everyday for $22. It features a cold buffet and a warm buffet. For casual dining in the Quarter my favorites are Johnny's Po-Boys, Central Grocery (try the muffaletta)and the Gumbo Shop. Enjoy!

If you're planning to go to Jazz Fest; you will definitely need reservations at most of the better restaurnants and I would suggest you make them for 8;30 or later since you will be at the Fairgrounds till late afternoon.

I personally would avoid Court of Two Sisters. It's pretty widely known as a "tourist trap" with a pretty atmosphere but high prices and marginal food. You can do better for the same dollars.

I'm with John on Court of Two Sisters. I enjoy K-Paul's but would recommend going for lunch.

As we will not be spending majority of time at fairgrounds, should we brunch Sat. or Sun. (do you have any opinion?)? As this is a 'working' visit, are there any 'small' JazzFest venues, i.e., clubs, etc.? We are interested in hearing good jazz as opposed to hearing/seeing 'stars'. I have JazzFest website and as a newbie, I am very, very confused. We cannot commit to late evening performances as we have early meetings each morning. <BR>Thanks for your continued advice.
