No tax one weekend in Aug????

I've just read a post concerning buying a digital camera that mentions there is a weekend in Aug when there is no tax on anything in Downtown.

That sounds too good to be true. Can anyone confirm or deny, please.

Downtown where? There is never tax in Downtown Portland, Oregon!

If you're referring to New York City, yes, there's one more tax-free period for businesses below Houston: August 20-22.

THere is a no-tax weekend coming up here in Texas. But it is limited to certain items under $100. Not everything is included. This kind of started as a way for parents to buy school related items tax free. (But it doesn't include back packs. Go figure) It includes shoes, clothing, most school supplies.

I think the info in Texas is listed on the Comptroller's website. Perhaps a similar site in your state.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/misc/html/2002a/tax_free.html

Check this link. It says no tax from August 20-22 on all items under $500, in downtown Manhattan.

Thanks for the replies - too bad that we leave NYC on the 19th of August and the last period start 20th!
