NO Plantations
Can anyone provide a web site or place to get info and maps of the Plantations around the New Orleans area?
|
We got ours through the NOLA Chamber of Commerce. There is a book written about Nottoway which is called Whitle Castle of Louisiana if you like to read up ahead of time.

Check out www.neworleans.about.com. Under "Essentials", scroll down to "Visitor Guide/Survival/Maps" - (or something close to that). I found some info and pictures of plantations that might interest you.

If you have a rental car, there are several plantations that are easy to reach on your own - Destrehan, Laura, Oak Alley, etc. Tours to the plantations are also available.

Wanted to thank Meg for suggesting that website to the above poster....just checked it out and it is full of information.
After everyone's suggestions, we have decided on the Chateau Hotel since they gave us the best deal of $89 with free parking for our dates in June...I hope this is a good choice...if anyone has advice to the contrary please let me know.
We are looking forward to coming to N.O. and seeing all it has to offer.
Also, thanks Meg for suggesting the Beau Rivage to me in another post for Biloxi.
We have reservations there also for one night in June and it looks incredible.

You're welcome, Cathie. I recently stayed at the Beau Rivage for the first time myself (my husband had been there on business previously) and I thought it was very nice. Large rooms, lots of shopping and dining choices - however - my dining recommendation is to walk across the streett to Mary Mahoney's for gumbo and crabmeat au gratin. The prices probably aren't any higher than the casino dining, but the food is outstanding. It's a landmark dining place on the coast. I remember going there as a child and was very pleased that the food was still as good. When you exit the casino, walk across Highway 90. There is a Bombay Bicycle Club Restaurant on the corner. Turn right and walk to the Bank of Biloxi just past the Bombay. Mary Mahoney's is located behind the bank. Reservations are probably a good idea.

I don't know much about the Chateau Hotel except that I think it's a great location. It's near Croissant d'Or (600 block of Ursulines) that has great croissants and pastries.

Hope you have a great trip.
