No pillows on AA domestic flights
I just read in Sunday's Denver Post that American Airlines is no longer offering pillows on domestic flights, with the exception of Hawaii. The part that amazed me is that this will save the airline $375,000 in pillow cleaning costs per year. That's a lot of pillow cleaning! I'm glad they opted to remove the pillows, rather than just stop cleaning them. :-)
Just think of the money they could save if they had customers bring a lawn chair onto the flight! |
It must be time to log off....I read your headlines as "No more pillow fights on AA". LOL :D
|
And just what are you drinking tonight highbay?? ;-) I am surprised they spend that much cleaning pillows. I wonder how many times a day/week they clean them? I saw someone ask for one once and sit their fat rump on it. YUK!

Oh, but aj, lawn chairs are much more roomy than what they give us now.
I'll miss those pillow fights....sigh.... |
That's funny, when I caught it out of the corner of my eye, I read it as "no more pillow fights" too!

On a USAirways flight last week, a passenger came to first class section from coach and took 6 pillows from overhead bins and walked back to coach with them. I was flying First Class on FF mioles and have never used an airline pillow, so I did not care. But I thought it was odd. What does one do with 6 pillows on a plane anyway?
|
One for each foot, one behind the small of your back, one behind your neck, two to protect your knees from the seat in front of you now that there's No Room in Coach.
|
And one to flip at the loud drunk sitting across the aisle.
|
NWA discontinued pillows also.

If I remember correctly my recent Continental flight to FL. included the announcement that there were no more pillows because the headrests had adjustable sides to them. In addition we were told that we could ask for blankets if we needed back support. This was a flight from Newark that did not even include a movie or headsets option even though I had printed out a complimentary headset coupon. There were no outlets for headsets!!!?????

ajcolorado: you have absolutely started my day off with a chuckle! Thank you.

I'm pretty sure that pillow fights are still allowed - you just have to bring your own pillow. Years of summer camp taught me that the heavy feather pillows offer superior fire power.

topping just for fun

I have figured out the solution to this. If you travel w/one of those little wide U shaped blow up pillows, you can also wrap it around the bottom of the wire part of a hanger and use it like an inflatable hanger to dry clothes that you've handwashed overnight. That is what I figured out in planning my upcoming trip to Japan. My little hint for the day. I'm done now.

thats a neat idea emd. Thanks
