Interesting. It's been a while since I've been in a Prius but I seem to recall the dashboard is higher than average in my experience. So I could see your issue there although even then I'd be looking into maybe a vent mount as a way of not cluttering windshield real estate when it's at that kind of premium. The Beemers I can't speak to but I assume the real estate issue is similar there too.

Where I've seen people mounting their GPS' by the rearview mirror, the problem I've noticed is that their blindspot is exacerbated by adding the GPS (less so with a TomTom than a Garmin but the issue's still there). In fact last Spring while roadtesting one of our Niagara wine tours, the driver of a car ahead of me at a stop sign was nearly broad-sided. Had the accident occurred, I'm sure the local constabulary would've chalked the fault up to driver inattention/unsafe driving and I can't say I'd be able to gainsay that. But in her case, the presence of the GPS by her mirror would've been a contributing (maybe even deciding) factor.

I wasn't picturing you with your GPS in front of you; that'd be just too Darwinianly foolish for words. The only thought that initially came to mind was that you might be short of stature in which case I could understand how the beanbag-type mount could present issues.
