No accommodation left at Yosemite - is it worth commuting in from Sonora?

Check Expedia, they usually have Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal - and you won't have to drive, there is a shuttle from the lodge to Yosemite valley, and from there free shuttles all over Yosemite.

Everyone is trying to find ways Rosie can fit Yosemite into her plans, but she already mentioned that what she found in El Portal was either booked up or too pricey (Yosemite Lodge's rates are higher yet).
She has decided to stick to the coast this trip and has a new thread going.

Hi all
After feeling broken-hearted about missing Yosemite I decided today to do everything I can to get there after all. It wasn't until I thought about missing it (even for the wonderful coastal drive that I will have more time for) that I realised HOW VERY MUCH I want to go to Yosemite!! So, now all effort is on to make it happen. I have found a hotel in Mariposa which is reasonable, not as reasonable as the Shiloh (darn) but still not bad. I just have to try and extend my flights so I have an extra day, allowing me a semi-leisurely drive up the coast but ALSO allowing for a 1-2 day trip to the Park.
Thank you all SO much for the input. Coming to check the board today, after deciding to try and fit it in after all, I feel a bit sheepish (embarrassed to have changed my mind back again!) JanisJ thank you especially.
Anyway, thanks and I will post up anything good I find for others to benefit from too.

I once lived in Yosemite. DEFINITELY wait until you can visit at leisure and stay in the Park. The driving even when fit is very tiring. And I can't imagine doing it in the summer and in such a short time.
The Park gets PACKED as you've already learned, and because of this (and posters with more recent knowledge will advise you) you might check whether you'll actually be allowed into the Park without a reservation.
I do hope you wait until Spring or Fall AND when you feel fitter. It's such a magical place if you're only visiting once it's a shame not to see it without hordes. However regardless of when you visit (and especially if it's in the summer) be sure to spend time at the Ahwahnee Hotel.
