NJ to Maine to Quebec City and back

Need some advice on driving from Northern NJ to Quebec City. Would like to drive thru Maine and return through Vermont. Maine is the only city on the east coast that my family has not visited, so it is a must. On the return we are open to other options. Our itinerary is Saturday departure, Monday to Friday Quebec City, Friday depart return to NJ Saturday. August so I know that the traffic will stink. Any advice where to stay in Maine? What route? We love lobster rolls.

A long time ago we went to maine after vacationing in Quebec City. It required a very long drive thru logging country after entering US at Fort Kent then overnighting at Presque Isle before getting to coast. Googlemaps suggests I91 in vt,nh border as a possibility. If you go I91 to Brattleboro then exit to keene nh you can take rt 101 to the coast. I prefer more northern and scenic but slower route to go to Concord nh then rt 4 to portsmouth where you can connect with I95. Lots of choices for lobster rolls then best would be Portland ME to NH's Conway area and over to littleton then whatever googlemaps suggests to Quebec City. If you have time you could continue further north along maine coast but it makes the westerly drive even longer thru Maine from Ellsworth. Bite into ME food truck which parks in Fort Williams park is highly rated for their lobster rolls. If you take rt 101 you can stop in Epping at Beach Plum i think. Have not been to that location.

I'm not quite sure of your timeline: a week in QC or a week including Maine, VT, and QC?

Here's what the driving looks like:

Mid-Jersey to Mid-coast Maine (Camden): 8 hours

Camden, ME to Quebec City: 6 hours

Quebec City to Mid-VT (Stowe): 5 hours

Stowe to Mid-Jersey: 7 hours

None of this allows for sight seeing on the way.

How does this look?

Saturday: Jersey to Portsmouth, NH
Sunday: Portsmouth to Camden
Monday: mid-coast Maine
Tuesday: Camden to Quebec
Wednesday: Quebec City
Thursday: Quebec to Stowe
Friday: Ben and Jerry's, then Scenic VT highway 100 to Brattleboro
Saturday: Brattleboro to Jersey
