Nightlife on Kauai
 

My friends and I (all over 21) are taking a vacation to Hawaii and were wondering what (if anything) there was to do in Kauai at night time.

Suffice it to say that you don't come to Kauai for nightlife. This is the island for winding down. But there are a few nightlife options.<BR><BR>North Shore:<BR>Hanalei has some action, primarily at Sushi & Blues, in Ching Young Village. Reggae, rhythm and blues, rock, and good music by local groups draw dancers and revelers Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 8:30pm on. The format changes often there, so call ahead to see who's playing. <BR>Hanalei Bay Resort is a also a music lover's gem, with a Sunday Jazz Jam in its Happy Talk Lounge from 3 to 7pm Sundays and contemporary Hawaiian music at the Happy Talk Lounge Monday through Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30pm. On Saturday evenings, Kenny Emerson, a fabulous guitar and steel guitar player, performs with Michelle Edwards; if they play "Hula Blues" or any other 1920s to 1940s hits, you'll never leave.<BR>TAHITI NUI <BR>Sunday through Saturday: Each night presents a different style of local entertainment. <BR>Friday: from 8-12 midnight authentic Hawaiian Local Music, occasionally has live Reggae and Rock & Roll bands performing in the Luau room from 9:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. <BR>Thursday: Karaoke from 8 to closing. <BR>Saturday: Karaoke from 8 to closing and occasionally live bands or D.J. dance parties in the Luau room from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.<BR><BR><BR><BR>On the south shore, the Hyatt's Stevenson's Library is the place for an elegant after-dinner drink with live jazz nightly from 8 to 11pm. Also in Poipu, Keoki's Paradise offers live music Thursday and Friday evenings from 8:30 to 10pm, with the cafe menu available from 11am to 11:30pm. Hawaiian, reggae, and contemporary music draws the 21-and-over dancing crowd. No cover.<BR><BR>Down the street at Sheraton Kauai Resort The Point, on the water, is the Poipu hot spot, with live music Saturday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30pm and a DJ on Fridays from 9pm to 1:30am. There is no cover charge, and the DJ spins Top 40 hits for dancing. The rest of the evenings, local groups play contemporary Hawaiian <BR>

Agree with X but it is not just about winding down. I hike, swim, snorkle, kayak (this year). Get Kathy Morey's Kauai trails she opens the book with a family joke of people saying there is nothing to do on Kauai. <BR><BR>I am wiped out after eveb a 4 hour hike but am left with unforgetable views. Kauai has the most diverse landscape of all 5 islands. If there ever is considerable night life on kauai you can count on some of those trails, open spaces will be either crowded (bus tours through Manoa falls on Oahu)(Once a trail only residents frequented) or completely distroyed. Look over the pali on Oahu they have made golf courses out of rainforest. But you can find great nightlife on Oahu also. It seems that the area really started to change when they started to expand Waikiki and building the alawai canal. Both efforts displaced Hawaiians and hurt the natural eco system. <BR><BR>Any kind of development that takes place on these islands distroys some of the natural environment but it seems when they develop for tourist they tap into the most beautiful areas. Waikiki use to be known as the healing place now it is known as some kind of hotel mecca. There are always surfers on the N.S of Oahu organizing over some kind of development that wants to further erode what is left of the North Shore.<BR><BR>Just something to think about if you are looking for an island with things to do.<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>

You are more likely to find a Starbucks on Gilligan's Island than nightlife on Kauai. Come 9pm it's lights out, and if you lay in your bed and listen really hard you'll hear one big, collective snore.

...and that is the way it should be if you are going to enjoy the natural beauty of Hawaii.
