Niece (16) Traveling to LA this summer - need hip place for birthday dinner

My niece will be coming to visit me in Los Angeles this summer for her 16th birthday, from the Seattle area; it is my gift to her. She would like to celebrate with a dinner at a really hip restaurant. She has requested "any place where there is even the tiniest remote possibility of seeing the likes of Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan, or, even someplace where they have been seen in the recent past" this is for bragging rights with her girlfriends when school starts. God Help Me! Does anyone have any clue?? Perhaps a local fodorite with a teen daughter that pays attention to this type of thing? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Many thanks!

"Hot" spots that might qualify: Koi, Dolce, Mr. Chow, maybe Asia de Cuba. The Beverly Hills Il Fornaio. The Ivy on Robertson is still a pretty good bet. None of these are brilliant restaurants (and their cachet is fading), but they get celebs through their doors for some reason. Spago in Beverly Hills is a superb eatery now, but I don't think it gets the same high star quotient like the old place in West Hollywood (where the food wasn't nearly as good).

Best place to spot someone famous currently? Word on the street: Show up at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at Sunset and Fairfax with a laptop anytime in the afternoon. Get drinks and settle in (at least an hour-- write a journal entry or catch up on e-mails). You should see someone with a fairly high TV Q in quick order.

Thanks RJW!

I've lived here for 20 years now, but stick fairly close to the South Bay and have no interest in stalking celebrities. I've had my share of sightings, but certainly don't seek them out. I had no clue where to begin for a teen's idea of hip.

At least this is better than an other niece that was visiting long ago for a wedding and wanted to see all the sites connected to the Simpson/Goldman murders - they were in the national news everyday at the time. I tried to get out of it by claiming ignorance of the locations. She had addresses and directions! That was a nightmare.

Hmmm, I don't know what is scarier --a teenager who wants to look at murder sites or a teenager who idolizes Paris Hilton.

I had teenaged guests in town recently. They wanted to see the typical Hollywood & BH Sights. They shrieked when they saw The Knitting Factory (Who knew it was where Ashlee Simpson had her first concert?) We also had to stop to take pictures of the Whiskey and other hot spots.

You might also take her for a jaunt through Fred Segal.

Whats the cool retro hotel that the young celebs are hanging out at its lounge (and pool) this season?

Never mind. The answer is the Tropicana Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel. But, the article I read said its virtually impossible to get in.

I would also take her to Kitson on Roberston Boulevard for some fun shopping. There are some other great stores, like Lisa Kline, that are fabulous but also mentioned in People, US Weekly.

Check out:

Scroll down and read some of the "Hollywood PrivacyWatch" postings. This will tell you where those two horrible human beings have been spotted most recently. Sorry for the editorializing. But seriously, ew.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I am not looking forward to the places and/or people she is hoping to see, but I vaguely remember being 16 so I am willing to do what I can to make her visit memorable. Ew, is putting it mildly! In her defense, she is an A student, a pretty good athlete on her school sports teams and works part-time to earn her own spending money. I am hoping that this celeb interest is a phase!!
