Nice towns between Clarksville & Nashville
 

OK, this isn't really a travel question, but I've seen similar questions here before and I hope no one minds.

I had been planning to move to St Simons Island , GA, but now my daughter, husband and grandson are living in Clarksville. They want me to move down, and while I've never considered TN as a place to move to, I'm seriously considering it now. I've only been to Clarksville once and it didn't do a whole lot for me, but I figure maybe a nice town somewhere between there and Nashville might work. Anyone have any recommendations? It needs to be affordable, and someplace that isn't too far from a city with decent job opportunities.

I'd appreciate any comments y'all might have.

I can tell you that Tennessee doesn't have state income tax, which is pretty cool. However, sales tax is around 9.5%, give or take depending on the county.

Ashland City is real nice beautiful little town right off the highway. There is one real big factory there that makes hot water heaters. There are beautiful parks right on the river. There are roads in and out to all the towns around that avoid the main Hwy if it is backed up or you just want beautiful drives. Hwy 12 is one that goes from Ashland City to Clarksville. The housing there is all kinds from low income trailers to Country music mansions.
If you want something bigger you could go to Springfield, it is not as close to highway but bigger. They have a factory that makes Washers and driers I think. Pleasant View is closer to Clarksville but I do not know if there is any employment opportunities there.
I would gladly move closer to my children and grandchildren if they lived where there was affordable housing.
What kind of job opportunities are you looking for? What else do you want? Fishing? Church? Sopping? Night life?

Thanks Redeemed, Ashland City sounds interesting to me, but a lot of people don't seem to care for it. Any idea why that might be?

I've worked in local tourism for many years (not a travel agent), and wouldn't mind staying in the industry, but I'm sure there are less oportunities in that area than there are here.

I'm looking for a place not too far from decent shopping, good churches, where there might be interesting events going on from time to time. :-)

Not "between" but look at Franklin or Murfreesboro.

You might check out Joelton. I don't know very much about it and so hesitate to give too much advice, but it's close to I-24 and fairly close to Nashville. You'd be within a 20- or 30-minute drive to the Madison/Rivergate area of Nashville, which has lots of shopping, etc., and probably a 25- or 30-minute drive to downtown Nashville on the weekends. I'm not sure what rush hour would be like or how much is in the town itself, but it's something to look at.

NAshville native here - not much between Nashville and Clarksville but Hendersonville/Gallatin area is pretty close - on the lakes and affordable with very good shopping. THer is and intesect with I65 and I24 out that way which means yu can hop to Clarksvilel without going through Nashville.

Another Nashville native here - Hendersonville is a lovely area, which is probably the closest you're going to get to Clarksville and still live in a nice area. Hendersonville has some beautiful homes, decent public schools, good shopping, and it's within driving distance of Nashville if you care to look down that way.

This is likely too late, but I lived in Clarksville for 6 years until moving last August. Joelton as mentioned above is nice, Ashland City is also OK but it's a bit further off. Also consider Springfield--again, a bit off the interstate and an interesting town. We lived near exit 11 of I-24 in Clarksville and could fly to downtown Nashville most of the time in about 35 minutes.

We don't miss the 9.5% sales tax a bit but I pay 6 times more in property taxes in our new home in northern VA along with state income tax. In 2000 Clarksville was the cheapest MSA in the country---more expensive today but still a great buy!
