Nice moderate hotels in Honolulu

Looking for hotels that are reasonably priced but clean and pleasant near Waikiki. Any suggestions? Has anyone stayed at the Breakers?

Define reasonably priced... Under $100? $100 to $200?

To puddy: $100-$125

Maybe try the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel or the Waikiki Parc Hotel. Also heard decent things about the Waikiki Joy. Can't comment on the Breakers.

Another option is to try Priceline. You may be able to get a really nice place for around $100 a night, depending on when you travel. Check www.biddingfortravel.com for info.

I'm heading over there in 3 weeks - I have reservations at an older, low-rise hotel - the Hawaiiana. My mom went by and checked it out for me the last time she was over there and she said it's really pretty with a lot of flowers and plants, it has 2 pools and serves Kona coffee & tropical juice by the pool every morning and they give you a pineapple upon check in. The weekly rate for a standard room is $400, $480 for the ones with balconies. The daily rates are below $80, I believe. I'm excited and can't wait - I hope this hotel will be a good one. Since it includes a kitchenette and is about a block from the beach, I jumped at it because of the low weekly rate. Have fun on your trip.

Try the Outrigger Reef TOWERS, not to be confused with the Outrigger Reef hotel. The towers is one block behind the Reef but just that one block away from the beach. One or 2 rooms on each floor have an ocean veiw - well a small strip of view between to other buildings. Some have a kitchenette. A clean place with no frills. Like any of the mainland traveler's hotels.

Very good value for the location. I have stayed there on my last 3 trips. It is not a "resort" hotel that you would consider a home in the islands but if you are only staying a couple of nights it is a good choice.

jjdwyer,
we are heading over to kauai in november. For our one night stay in honolulu she suggested the aston waikiki beach hotel. Ocean view is $137 plus they serve a "breakfast on the beach." You can look at others opinions on this hotel on tripadvisor.com. We decided on the waikiki marriott as we had points there but the A beach hotel looks fine!
