Nice hotel in DC for family of four. HELP!?!?!
 

My husband and I are planning a family vacation to DC in June w/ our 8 and 5 year olds. we would like to stay @ a moderately/luxury hotel w/ a refrigerator if possible. We would like to be close to a Metro stop if possible. We need any and ALL suggestions of where to stay!!! Thanks in advance for any advice.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in D.C. with our son a few years ago. It's two rooms, two t.v.'s, breakfast included.Very well located. Doesn't cost that much more than one room. I can't remember if it had a refrigerator, though

You probably want a place with a POOL, especially in June. The L'Enfant Plaza is within walking distance to the Mall. It has a rooftop pool. It's fairly lux, but you can probably get a deal, especially on weekends. If that's too expensive, the Marriott on NW 22 St. has a nice pool (indoor, very airy). It's a few blocks from the Metro (about 3 stops to Mall if I remember correctly) and we got a really good deal including breakfast. I also have a younger son and wouldn't stay anywhere without a pool. There are just so many monuments and museums little ones can take in. You can request refrigerators at both places.

We enjoy staying at the Embassy Suites on 22nd Street. It has two rooms, @ TV's and a refrigerator, sink, coffeemaker. This hotel is in the Foggy Bottom area of DC, an upscale neighborhood, not far from Dupont Circle and Georgetown, and close to the metro. With a family of 4, it is sometimes cheaper and easier to use DC cabs to get around town. This hotel is not within walking distance of the Mall. When you call, ask for the lowest rate available; ask if there is a weekend getaway rate, and/or the lowest rate (Entertainment Card, AAA, etc.).

Think about staying outside the city to save money. Gaithersburg, Rockville in Maryland or Alexandria, VA. <BR>Metro (subway) will take you into DC to see the sites. Metro is clean and runs frequently-although avoid rush hours.

If you have a family of 4, it is NOT cheaper to take cabs than Metro, as you can buy a family day pass on Metro. Can't remember the exact cost, but it's ridiculously cheap, like $5 or $10. You now can buy one at any Metro station (after 9:30 a.m.) at certain farecard machines. Ask the attendant (if you can find them) for help. I still can't figure out the new farecard machines.

The Residence Inn Pentagon City is a nice hotel to consider. All of the rooms are either studios or one/two bedroom suites and also all rooms have a full kithen with a full size fridge. The Residence Inn Pentagon City is only located about one block from the Metro, and a short distance from restaurants and shopping. In addition, they have an indoor pool and whirlpool on site. <BR> <BR>Hope this is of some help!

Our family (including kids then aged 9 and 6) stayed at Loews L'Enfant two summers ago--your kids will love it. The hotel gave them welcome "goody bags" upon arrival and they thought the tv in our bathroom was the coolest thing ever. The rooftop pool has been ranked as one of the best hotel pools in DC. We spent part of every day there as a nice break from sightseeing. You won't find many restaurants around Loews but a metro stop is right there. As I recall we found a great summer promotion and the cost wasn't bad. Yes, it did have a mini-bar fridge that we stashed things in. Great hotel--friendly people--our family would stay there again in a flash.

Do not stay in Gaithersburg or Rockville, Md. These are far-out suburbs. Even the people who live there don't like them. <BR> <BR>If you are considering staying outside the city (which I personally don't recommend), Arlington, Virginia; Old Town Alexandria (either the Embassy Suites or the Hilton at the King Street Metro stop), Virginia; or Bethesda, Md. These truly are the only suburbs convenient to downtown, and that have things to keep you occupied.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria and would highly reccommend them! Very new and attractive. Can get king bed or 2 doubles, pull out sofa in living room area,refrigerator in mini bar area,very nice furnishings and it is right across the street from Metro. Metro is very easy to use. Don't know about family passes but we got day passes for $5 each person. Metro will take you just about anywhere you'd want to go in city. But bring comfortable shoes as it is also a walking town. It also has a great free breakfast and a manager's reception at night. We saw lots of families there!
