nice half way stop

We'll be driving from Boston to Montpelier area and cannot do the whole trip at once. We'd like to stop halfway --perhaps on the NewHampshire/Vermont line - and stay the night-before moving on the next day. It would be helpful to get a recommendation for a pleasant town to look around and have dinner. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would recommend Brattleboro, VT - but it all depends on which route you are planning to take from Boston.

I just wrote some info about places to eat in Brattleboro on this thread:

There are a number of options for a place to stay in Brattleboro, from b&b's to motels...

Brattleboro is not on the way. Lebanon, NH or White River Junction, VT would be about half way.

Well that's the way I go - and I did say depending on chestnut's route. Coming from the suburbs west of Boston, I always go Route 2 to I-91 into VT. That brings you right through Brattleboro on the way north.

I agree with djbooks - Brattleboro is way out of your way if you are leaving from Boston.
Stop and spend the night in the White River/lebanon area. Mosey up to Hanover for dinner and walk it off around the Dartmouth College campus.
The next day you'll have about an hours drive to Montpelier.
