nice gifts from NYC - where?

Hi all,

I will be spending 3 days in NYC right after Thanksgiving.

You know how you have a lot of (non family, non close-friend) folks in your life whom you want to buy presents for but you don't just want to revert to fruit baskets - you want to find something more unique and interesting?

So... what various stores do you recommend to find nice thoughtful (interesting, unique) gifts for Xmas? For instance, this would be coworkers for the Xmas party, the maid, the petsitter, you know, folks you want to do something nice for - but you aren't looking to buy an iPod for your brother - that kind of thing.

thank you!

Hey - there are so many places with so many different things but a few places to look:
Sample Sales (designer stuff at very discounted prices) - for a list of a few check out http://dailycandy.com/article.jsp?Ar...d=28084&city=1
For some funky houseware items: Fishs Eddy (Broadway and 19th St), Details (a few locations around the city)
Another place that has some cute small gifts is Alphabets (multiple locations also).
Hope this helps!

I think I might get them something that says New York on it or has images of NY on it. Macy's carries a line of ornaments, etc. with a Macy's logo or New York skyline on it. Ditto Bloomingdale's.

and get the holiday shopping bags (nice paper ones w/the handles) from Macys or Bloomies to wrap the presents in.

I love the ornaments at Macy's. They have some very unique and very cool ones.

If you are going to the Statue of Liberty, they have a great clear glass ornament in their gift shop every year that has a replica of the statue inside of it.

The Metropolitan Museum has a wonderful gift shop - in fact there are several museum shops around the city. They also have great ornaments. Rockefeller Center has some shops - with ornaments as well.

The Met Museum shop was my first thought too. Everything from a coffee mug, to a t shirt, to an 07 calendar, diary etc.

For females, there are lots of street vendors selling nice costume jewelry and other accessories like scarves.

You might also check out the Christmas markets at Grand Central and Bryant Park.

For fake Goyard totes, hit up the guy at the corner of 60th and Madison.

Plenty of $5 pashimas being sold on 5th Ave. White seems to be the color of choice among the Polly Magoo set.

Christmas market in Bryant Park should start right after Thanksgiving. You can buy great handmade soaps here.

Takashimaya has little things (leather passport covers) on the tables on the first floor opposite the elevators.

You are welcome, sweetie.

Another vote for The Met Museum gift shop. And here's a secret tip...shop online, have it delivered to your home and you won't have to schlep it around. They have all kinds of wonderful things at various prices. I love that museum and gift shop!

Hope this helps...
