Nice Accomodations in Williamsburg
 

Planning to visit Willliamsburg in late Oct. early Nov. Would like some suggestions on some luxury or quaint accomodations in the area and one of the better taverns.

For all-out luxury you should try the Williamsburg Inn, which is adjacent to the historic district and has a gorgeous pool and other facilities. It is one of the 5 official hotels of the Williamsburg Foundation, so you have that advantage too. We did not stay in the Inn itself, but rather had one of the colonial houses right on Duke of Gloucester street in the historic area, which the Inn rents. You check in at the Inn and have use of all their facilities, but you follow a bellman on a fat-wheeled Schwinn bike into a private hidden parking area with access to the house. Our house had two baths and bedrooms, one per floor, which could be rented separately or together. House has front porch and gardens, plaster walls, fireplace, beautiful colonial furnishings, air conditioning etc. In the morning you can go for a walk before the crowds arrive in the historic area and really feel at peace. Totally wonderful. <BR> <BR>I can't remember which tavern we ate at and I'm not sure if in fact there is much to differentiate the ones run by the Foundation.

Hi Sandy - I can't help you with the tavern part, but I would like to suggest a great place that my husband and I stayed at about 5 years ago. It's the Kingsmill resort. Back then, the cost was around $300.00 for a weekend package and that included 3 days/2 nights in a spacious room right on the James River. That also included use of the clay tennis courts (reservations needed), pool, workout facilites, paddle boats, etc. Meals were extra and there were at the time, 3 restaurants to chose from, in varying degrees of expense. Late October/early November is a wonderful time to visit that part of Virginia. Not too hot and the fall colors are gorgeous. I took a picture of a gigantic tree right outside of our room and looking at it still takes my breath away. My husband and I also stayed at Kingsmill Resort in December and loved it. We had a huge one bedroom suite. Meals are still extra, but the food was good. We didn't visit Colonial Williamsburg, but went to the outlets and took advantage of the resort's spa, which is fairly new. I definitely recommend it

We just spent 2 days at the Marriott in Willaimsburg. We got a great deal and were very pleased. It has a great pool, gym, tennis courts, restaurant . . . I'm sure it's not at the Kingsmill level but it's a fine property at a good price.
