Niagria Falls to Cooperstown

How long does it take to drive from Niagria Falls to Cooperstown. Planning family vacation and also was wondering if early October would be a good time. Our other choice would be last week of July. We're traveling from Tennessee. Would like to fly into Buffalo, spend day or two at Niagria Falls, and then drive to Cooperstown. Thanks for any help.

Allow much more than 4- 4.5 hours, depending where you get off the Thruway- probably Herkimer- you then have an hour of slow 2 lane driving to Cooperstown. Via thruway with a stop it is 4 hours to Herkimer. If you get off the thruway earlier- you will have more non 55-65mph driving.

It is about 250 miles of which 200 miles is on the Thruway. You can do the 200 miles on the Thuway in just over 3 hours. Speed limit is, I believe, 70 mph and you get off at Exit 30. The first 20 miles, Niagara Falls to Thruway will take 30 minutes or so. The last 30 miles on Rt. 28 South to Cooperstown can take up to an hour. You can certainly do the trip in well under 5 hours.

Speed limit is 65mph. And from Herkimer it can take longer than an hour to get to Herkimer, some slow 2 lane roads- going through speed limit areas and following the lake on narrow curvey roads. 5 hours would not really allow more than brief rest stops if needed. If right in Niagara Falls- can be an hour to the thruway.

If you are staying on the Canadian side it can take quite a long time to get to the Thruway - depends on how long it takes to cross the bridge and clear customs. IF staying on the US side 30 minutes to the Thruway unless there is a major traffic jam.
