Niagra Falls
Is the view of the Falls better from the Canadian side or the New York side. Also, on each side which hotel do you recommend?

there are so many posts on this topic. Maybe you should check them out. you are a very busy traveller.

IMHO the Canadian side is much better - that way you're looking at the front of the falls. On the US side you're sort of above the top of the falls looking down at it.
On the Canadian side we stayed at the Sheraton - make sure you get the right one - which is just across a small public park from the falls, You get floor to ceiling picture window views of the falls, which are floodlit at night, and a cute fake fireplace in the living room area. We were there in May and they were heavily discounting with a free (but awful) breakfast - so it was very inexpensive. Don;t know when you're planning on going - but some things are shut from Oct through April. Also- be sure you have the neessary proof of citizenship to return to the US (assuming you are). getting into Canada is easy, back not so much. |
Due to the configuration of the Falls, the views on the Canadian side are far superior. AND, Canadian Parks does a magnificent job with landscaping and keeping the "touristy" stuff away from the Falls.
Best of the best on the Canadian side for (unobstructed) views of the American AND Horseshoe Falls would be the Sheraton On The Falls (not to be confused with the Sheraton Fallsview). Also terrifically located across from Maid of the Mist. Over more than half a dozen trips, only once did we splurge on a Falls View room (at the Hilton, before the new hotel obstructed the views). This was some years ago when there were great deals by booking ahead on the web. There are SO many ways to enjoy the Falls, it's not really necessary to pay the extra for a view from your room. On top of the extra for a room with the view are the overnight parking charges. |
Gapper....you ask a lot of questions. Do you ever share information?

Canadian, view is better and so is the walking.

We recently went to Niagara Falls and stayed on the Canadian side which seemed to have more of the activity - casinos, eateries, attractions.... But WAY too many people.
If we went again we would stay in an area in Canada called "Niagara on the Lake". It's about 20 minutes from the falls - a quaint little town with upscale and interesting shops, eateries, wineries, music, cute B&B's, etc. There were far fewer people a much better experence (for us older folks).... Kids would love the fall area in Canada lots of rides, arcades and activity for them... |
or at least thank people for their help.
