Niagara Falls Ontario questions
We will drive from NYC to Toronto at the end of June. Our first stop will be staying at Niagara Falls Ontario for 2 nights. We will be staying at Renaissance Fallsview hotel. Questions:
1) Is my hotel area still under major construction because of casino, ... etc?
2) Is the end of June weather at Niagara Falls still be cool?
3) Anything must do or see (I am with my 2 kids age 2 and 7).
4) Where can I get a better rate on exchanging US$ to CAN$?
5) Any good family restaurant recommended?
Thanks

Weather is always difficult to predict, but it is usually very pleasant at the end of June. You might check the Falls forecast online before leaving.
Cave of the Winds and the nightly fireworks are definetely must-sees,IMO. We also like the Journey behind the Falls & the Spanish Aerocar. The kids would probably enjoy the Butterfly Conservatory at the Gardens, too.

1. Don's know construction status;
2. Weather can be anything from cool to delightful. Warm days (70s), cool evenings (50s) are likely.
3. Make sure you go to the Butterfly Conservatory-about 10-15 minutes away from the actual Falls. Your kids and you will love it. Have them wear bright colored clothing to attract the butterflies. There are also some amusement/theme parks which your kids might like in the vicinity-A seaworld type place and African Lion Safari-a wildlife park.
4. The best exchange rates are gained by charging whatever you can and card issuer will give you a god rate. there are alos little kiosks by the bridges run by banks to exchange your money. Go to banks, not merchants for exchanging your money.
5. No restaurants to recommend. It's one thing I find lacking in NF. there is a hard rock cafe which kids like. Be sure to go to Tim Horton's for donuts, coffee and sanwiches. They're all over Southern Ontario and western new yorkl. Great coffee, great donuts, great sandwiches. Also, Swiss Chalet restaurants are common in southern ontario-delicious rotisserie chicken and ribs.

We went to Niagara Falls when our kids were 5 and 8. They were amazed by it. We did Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist. However, if your kids don't like water in their faces, they may not enjoy this, esp. the little one.
I also highly recommend the Butterfly COnservatory. My kids loved it! The younger one even got to hold a Monarch butterfly (with the help of one of the staff).
We ate at Planet Hollywood. Fun atmosphere, OK food. Sometimes they have special events going on. The night we were there, there was high-wire walker performing outside over the restaurant.
There are also some fun shops in the area that you may enjoy browsing through. I remember a Coca-Cola store and a Hershey's store.
Hope you have a great time!

When we were at Niagara Falls a couple of years ago, we found that almost every place there accepted American money - we had gotten some Canadian money when we first got there, but found that it was really not necessary. However, if you were planning to go anywhere else in Canada away from the tourist area at Niagara Falls, you probably wouldn't be able to use American money.
We ate at the restaurant at the Table Rock complex right next to the Falls a couple of times. As I recall, the food was decent, but what is really nice is the wonderful view of the falls from there.

Sara is correct-most merchants freely take US or Canadian dollars; However, the US dollar is worth considerably more than the Canadian dollar right now and most merchants dont give you a fair exchange rate. If you are concerned about that, exhange at a bank or charge things.

Years back I went to Niagara Falls in mid-July and it was only 70 for the high. The whole time I felt "chilled" and wished I brought a better cover-up. There is the Hard Rock Cafe if you are not sure about the restaurants.

We went to Niagra 2 years ago when my youngest son was 7. The IMAX has a small free exhibit of barrels and such that people have taken over the falls. You walk through the gift shop to see the exhibits. The 2 year old probably would not get anything out of it but it would be fun for the rest of the family. We went the end of June and had a variety of temperatures. Most days were very pleasant, one rainy day I was warming up at the hand dryers in the restroom. Echo the recommendation of the Swiss Chalet. Had a good meal in one in Toronto.
