Niagara Falls in Winter?

If I am to spend a couple days in Niagara Falls this December, do you think the trip is worthwhile - consider I have been to the falls many time but all in summer & all in the America side.

Thanks & Ciao,

Lucian

Absolutely ... the falls are beautiful in the winter. It will be very cold; dress warm!

Definitely! It's just as much fun there in the winter as the summer - b/c they are used to the cold! I'll never forget spending new year's eve there a few years back at the outdoor karoake bar (yes, it's open year round), after a huge snow with it only 20 degrees. Funny, a few beers later, I didn't notice the cold at all and it was nice not having to worry about your pitchers of beer getting warm!

NF is beautiful in the winter, the mist of the falls ices over the landscaping and its just magnificent. Because we're used to cold and snowy weather, the roads are quickly cleared of snow and ice. Righ now it's snowing and it looks like someone shook up the glass globe.

I would love to go to Niagra Falls in the winter. I'm always afraid of booking anything though, due to the roads (I'm in Cleveland, and 90 East can be a nightmare in the winter).

I would definitely go if I were you.

The Canadian side is decorated for the festival of lights, the American side has Friday night 9pm fireworks over the falls... there are events and concerts all month long, casinos on both sides of the falls, and over 40 wineries celebrating Ice Wine, a world renowned product of the region...C'Mon Up

Go for it, but dress really, really warm. It's cold enough here, and even colder next to the falls!!!

I had an appointment in NF last week (American side) and when I walked outside at sunset could see the Christmas lights on the buildings across the Canadian side.....just beautiful.

P.S. Goat Island on the American side is awesome in the winter too.

Have fun!

Going in the winter has it's pros and cons. For one thing, it will be a LOT less crowded. And yes, it will be cold. The bad thing is depending on how cold it is, parts of the Falls might be frozen. The boat that goes along the Falls might not be operating. If it's snowing, it might be overcast and the sky might not be that clear, and therefore you won't get a clear view of the Falls.

I would say the trip is worthwhile as well. The Canadian side, as you probably know, is a much different experience than the US side. There are several new restaurants that have popped up recently (Wolfgang Puck's Cafe Niagara to name one), along with the newer Fallsview Casino. I live in Buffalo and love visiting the Canadian side. I stayed up there last weekend at the Sheraton on the Falls (which I recommend) and will be heading up there this afternoon to visit the Butterfly Conservatory. Also on my list is the Lost Kingdom Bird Aviary. If you haven't been, I would definitely make a side trip to Niagara on the Lake as well. It is such a quaint town with numerous wineries, great shopping and restaurants.

Sorry for rambling a bit but the point is to go and have fun!

Forgot to mention.....we went one year in Jan. and NONE of the many little shops on the U.S. side were even open! But everything was open on the Canadian side.
