We liked Niagara-on-the-Lake to stay when we visited the Falls. ((b))

If you can afford it, you definitely want to get a view of the falls in your room. The Sheraton Fallsview Hotel is very nice. Here is the website:

The Canadian side has so many beautiful parks, a huge Botanical Garden:

The surrounding area is great to just drive around and visit wineries and local fruit stands. Though it will be crowded you will be there at the ideal time, imo. Forget the tourist traps and take the time to explore the falls area on foot - we found a huge boulder to sit on right at the foot of the water across from the falls and just pondered the immenseness of it all.

The last time I went to the Falls stayed at the Greengate Motel ($30-35 in March - off season). Basic place but clean and we walked to the Falls. Easy walk if you are in descent shape (20-30 min walk). Since it was March don't know if they have a pool but they may. Within walking distance was a really nice Chinese restaurant. Just stayed on same side of street and made a left and started walking.

There is also a Travelodge just above Clifton Hill which advertised a breakfast buffet for $5. That was even closer to the Falls.

I believe Toronto is only 40-50 miles from Niagara. There is also a Fort up there that I didn't get to see and next time I'd go I'd be interested if there are any tours of the electric plant (NY) they have up there which gets their energy from the Falls.

Toronto is about an hour away and on a clear day you can see Niagara from the top of the CN tower...not the best view obviously but cool.

Great shopping/restaurants in Toronto.
I also like Niagara-on-the-lake, a little town with some nice restaurants, coffe spots, shops etc.

Although the Falls are spectacular the area around them is a tourist ghetto of cheap souvenirs, etc so 3 nights may be one too many in that area..
