Niagara Falls

I read somewhere that kids under 16 arriving in Canada by car with parents only need a birth certificate, not a passport. Does anyone know if this is true?
Also, is it more expensive to stay on the US side or Canadian side?
Finally, how much does a passport cost?
Thanks for your help in advance!!

Why not just google it like I did?

15 or under... certified(stamped) birth certificate... above 16 passport...

US side is cheaper but closer to the Falls they are the same rate... Canadian with Falls view is most$$$... you may find reasonable rates for motels with no view... have fun!

Make sure it is a certified/original birth certificate. And if travelling outside of US without both parents it is always advisable to have a notarized letter from absent parent(s) authorizing minor to do so.

Above info is correct - but I would still check out something this important to your trip yourself on US Dept of State website - it is quite comprehensive.

Thanks for the help! I did try both of those websites, but there's a lot to wade thru. I was hoping someone who had done this would respond saying it worked for them. Thanks Gary for the info on the hotels!

Doesn't really mater wha worked or "someone". If the law is otherwise the authorities can choose to enforc it at will.

I went ti Canada withmy parents an brother when I was 15 - during the last ice age - and they asked ME several questions to determine that my brother and I were indeed with our parents - and asked for real birth certifiates (not a copy).
