N.H. Mts.

Hi: My wife would like to visit the N.H. mtn. area this Aug. with our eight y/o daughter. Since the area is so large I would like to get advice on visiting this area. . Mt. Washington vs. other areas, lodging, etc. We reside on Long Island, NY Also, my daughter does not do well on extended car rides (over 4hrs. at one time). Are any areas south of the mt. area worth a stop or a overnight stay. I have only read about Concord. Not familiar with any other towns.
Thank you.

What does your family enjoy? Do you want to hike? Shop? Zip line? Water sports?

I would include a visit to the Montshire Museum in Norwich VT. Great for that age. She will need a bathing suit and bring a picnic lunch. Only a few mi utes from NH border.

SEE science center in Manchester NH might be An option but not close enough to Long Island. Would a couple of hours mid day be enough before resuming drive? If you go thru western MA via I91 The friendly Farm is near Keene NH. Then you could go east to I93 in NH. Have not been there, though.

Portsmouth! Take her to Strawberry Bank Historical Village, visit Prescott Park, and enjoy the scenic downtown.

Info about Strawberry Banke here: http://thefreelanceadventurer.blogsp...p-to-past.html

There are many of mountains in NH, and hundreds of hiking and walking trails. A lot depends on your driving route - I-91 along the Connecticut river in Vt or I-93 from Boston? I-91 is easier and more direct, with lots of great mountain views, but you'll have to cut east onto I-93 or one of the mountain roads once up in northern Vt. I-93 from Boston is also quite scenic once you get above Concord NH. There are many nice little towns in rural NH, like Littleton, Bethlehem, Woodstock, Jackson, etc. Concord NH is pleasant, but it's a city and not in the mountains. As for on the way stops, a visit to Sturbridge Village in central Mass is a good idea. You could also stay somewhere near Brattleboro Vt if you do the I-91 route.
In the White mountains, there are lots of kid friendly attractions - Santa's Village, Storyland, Mt Washington auto road, Clarks Trading Post, Lost river, etc.

The Red Jacket Inn in Conway is cool because it has a water park attached.

There are also all your national chains in N. Conway...Comfort Inn, Residence Inn, Hampton Inn, etc.

We recently stayed on the other side in Lincoln at the Comfort Suites. We don't normally choose that chain, but it was clean, beds were comfy, and it was only $100 per night.

Coworkers like the Lantern Resort across from Santa's Village.

There are also lots of mom and pop options.

What is your budget?
