Newport RI Timeshare options

Newport RI Timeshare options
I would like to switch my timeshare to Newport in fall or Christmas season this year 2009. Trip would be all adults. Would prefer downtown area, walk to dining, on site parking. It looks like I have the following 4 options in Newport: Newport Bay Club; Oceancliff 1&2; Wellington Resort; Wyndam Inn on the Harbour. Looking for feedback and suggestions. thanks

I can't help with the timeshare locations, but just a word about timing of your visit.
If you are planning to visit the Newport Mansions, beware that most of them are closed from mid-Fall through mid-Spring.
Having said that, the ones that remain open during Christmas season are very nicely decorated.

I stayed at WYNDHAM INN ON THE HARBOR last May. I liked it. It was right in town and walking distance to a lot of things.
The 1-bedroom was a little small but fine for two people – I would do 3 friends or a couple and a kid but not 4 in the 1 bedroom unless they have a bigger one. It had a queen or king bed and a pull out couch. Also a partial kitchen. In the one I was in, there was a little alcove at the door you come in through and then the bedroom, a hallway with the bathroom and then the dining room/living room. The reason you walk through the bedroom to get to the living room is so the living room can over look the harbor. It had a view of the bridge which was pretty nice.
I drove out of town a couple of times, to the Breakers and on the 10-mile drive. The parking lot is up a little hill between a couple of buildings. I think in high season you have to double park and leave your keys with the front desk.
I don’t know the locations of the other ones, but I liked being where I was.
The Coffee Grinder on Bannister's Wharf is a nice coffee place which is about a 10 minute or less walk. No place to sit inside but if you go in the fall you can sit right outside on the wharf and look at the boats.

Actually, most places except for the seasonal clam shack, or outdoor dining places, will be open. Many year round places will close in January or February for a few weeks. Christmas is actually a busy time (off season wise) in town.
Of those places, Ocean Cliff I & II are way out of town. Beautiful location for the summertime, but deserted and probably empty in the Winter.
Wellington Resort is at the far edge of the walking part of town on Thames St. That part of town does get quiet in the winter, and some of the seasonal stores down that way will be closed.
Newport Bay Club and the Wyndham have great downtown locations. Can't really comment on their accomodations, as I've never stayed at them.

I would opt for early autumn. I love Newport and have grown to love visiting the mansions and walking the Cliff Walk the whole way and then admiring the treelined streets the whole way back is one of life's joys....
Well, as a teenager, I hated the mansions and called my parents out on taking me to the tenement lords houses bought from the sweat and mistreatment of immigrants. They followed that up by bringing me to the steps in which the servants would meet to find news about those from the olde country (Ireland) My grandmother actually worked in one of the lesser mansions for a DR Rice, whom she never even laid eyes on.
anyhoo, although I enjoy visiting Newport and the Mansions during the Christmas season, one must realize that this is a modern decorative display. Nearly all of the mansions were NEVER decorated for Christmas as this was a purely summer refuge. So the decorations in a way devalue the historical experience.
Newport is great. I miss visiting the Onassis place. It was a great childhood memory.
