Newport Mansions
We're taking a cruise in October and will be in Newport Oct. 18. We'd like to see a few of the mansions. Is it possible to get tickets before we leave? If not, how do we go about it when we leave the ship?

For visiting in October, it is really not necessary to purchase tickets in advance. The combination tickets are a good deal, but it's best to follow the advice and plan to see only two, three at most,in one day (we didn't follow this advice and wish we had). Save The Breakers for last.

the newport restoration/mansion people are very nice and lax, we got a single entry ticket to the breakers first, and were able to upgrade it by paying the difference when we had time for another mansion - they also said if you save the stub you can even upgrade to the next grade next year if you return so i wouln't sweat it in advance :)

There is a great visitors' center downtown that offers information, advice, tickets and transportation passes. You won't have any trouble getting tickets in October.

I agree with the other posts...no need to get tickets in advance, try to see The Marble House also....I thought it was more spectacular than The Breakers.

Contact the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce; that should help you out some. :]

I agree don't miss Marble House. You will probably never see anything like it again. I was actually a little disappointed in The Breakers. The Biltmore House in Ashville was better than it was.
