Newport Beach area - beach accomodations/house rentals?

Hi:

We will be visitng the Newport Beach area in August.

We are looking for suggestions on a hotel or house rental. We do not need to be right in Newport - just within 15-20 miles of it.

Are there any hotels that are adjacent to a beach? We have a 5, 3 and 2 year old with us - and we spend a lot of time just frolicking in the sand.

Also, we may go "all out" on a nice resort - but with the three little ones we have to get adjoining rooms or a suite so there is at least an open area to be in during naps - any suggestions on a city or hotel that might be more ecenomical but still give us beach access (and a pool)?

Do people rent houses in CA for vacationers? Any advice on how to locate a service, etc that does this?

Thanks a ton,
Lisa

I love Newport, but you might have luck finding reasonably-priced lodging in the adjacent communities of Huntington Beach (especially the Hyatt and Hilton hotels) and Laguna Beach (at high end, the Surf and Sand-- at more reasonable end, the Laguna Riviera and the Inn at Laguna Beach). NOTE: The Huntington Beach hotels are across PCH from the beach, while the Laguna hotels are oceanside.

Thank you so much for your info. the Inn at Laguna looks fabulous!

We have reservations the end of July at the Newport Channel Inn, which is on PCH, just across from the beach. It looks good on the website and is recommended by AAA, with pretty good rates. All the rooms include a frig and a microwave - we will have a 5 month old with us so that's a huge plus.

While walking on Balboa Island this spring,we noticed some For Rent signs in the bungalows there. It is very upscale, very nice. Try a local realtor maybe for rental options. Maybe just long-term rentals, I don't know.
