Newport Accomodations?

We will have one night in Newport. Any suggestions regarding where to stay? We would consider an inn, a B&B or a regular hotel. Thanks.

Or Virginia, or. . . would you believe . . . Kentucky?!

OK, enough fun. The OP selected Rhode Island as a search topic.

How I wish Fodors would clarify how this board works, so newcomers would not assume there are different state "boards"!

Yes, Rhode Island. Thanks.

We Stay at the Castle Hill Inn. - Last year we were there just after Thanksgiving - the decorating had begun for the holidays, the afternoon tea is outstanding, we had the Tourret Room with a breathtaking view, and the service is professionalism at its best.

I wish we had gotten to at least go to dinner at Castle Inn while we were there, the grounds are very nice, but the Castle is a little out of the way of downtown (few miles outside) IF you don't have a car and need to walk into town for shopping/sightseeing or the mansions. We stayed at the Hyatt on Goat Island. Location is great, within walking distance to everything on the Avenue. Got an Orbitzsaver rate on Orbitz.com for $99/night, most websites (Including Hyatt) wanted $299/night....definitely NOT worth that much money!!!! Hotel is no more than *** and not a $300/night hotel.... If you do stay in town and not at the Castle, be sure to drive out Ocean Avenue for the views and you can drive out to the Castle, get out and walk around.

P.S. If you do happen to stay at the Hyatt, request a Harborview room, if possible, and they have only a handful of the view rooms that have a sitting porch on them--somehow with our $99 rate, we got one, and it was a nice touch for evening sunsets.
