Newport
My wife and I are coming to Newport this weekend and are looking for things to do and places to eat. Any suggestions? We really don't know much.
|
There are Newports in 8 different states in the US. You'll need to indicate which one you're referring to.
|
Ah, that would help. It's RI. thanks!

Newport is a great place to visit. You can tour the mansions - Breakers if you are only going to do one. Walk the Cliff Walk. Drive along Ocean Drive. Shop on Thames St. Eat at Asterisk and Obelisk or the Black Pearl. Tour Fort Adams.
|
Drive along Ocean and Bellevue to see the mansions and coastal homes.
Walk a portion of the cliff walk (park near Ruggles and Bellevue (toward the ocean a couple blocks) and you can walk to the cliff walk right next to the Breakers). Walk Thames Street for shopping. Food: Castle Hill Inn is one of the best in town for a special ebening meal, Asterisk/Obelisk is a favorite for nicer dining, Brick Alley Pub is a favorite for casual lunch, Cheeky Monkey is for eclectic atmosphere, Sardella's for Italian but check the menus (most are online at gonewport.com) to match your palate. Newport's small and easy to get around in. Have fun. |
Check out the Chanler Inn right at the head of the Cliff Walk for a quiet (splurge-y) dinner, drinks or coffee and dessert. It's recently renovated and gorgeous. If nothing else, the Inn at Castle Hill is a must! For other eclectic eateries, check out spots on Broadway St, opposite of Thames. There's Salvation Cafe or Tucker Bistro, both are a sure bet.

the restaurant in the chanler is the spiced pear. extremely expensive as they now only have a prix fixed menu. ate there once and had to stop on the way home for a snack

All suggestions are great! Scales is a wonderful resturant. The weather is to be very nice this weekend. Bring gloves for walking Cliff Walk and Ocean Drive spots. Brick Alley Pub is a cozy place for good lunch. Black Pearl "Chowder" Yum.... Beautiful time of year here. Enjoy!
