Newburyport Ma to Boston @North Station
I need to be in Newburyport in a few weeks for business and will have one day free - I heard the path will take me directly to North Station - I am going through my guide books later tonight- what will I be in walking distance to - or will I be able to hop another train - I would love to see either the Kennedy Library or the Boston Museum of Art - is that a possibility via public transportation?

Yes, but you'll need to switch from the commuter rail to the T -- neither venue is within walking distance from North Station. The Museum of Fine Arts is on the green line, across the street from Northeastern University on Huntington Avenue.
I believe that the JFK Library is on the blue line.
Check out www.mbta.com for the routes.

As Leslie pointed out, the Commuter Rail from Newburyport will take you as far as North Station, and you must then transfer to the appropriate line of the subway system.
The JFK Library is on the Red Line of the subway, and the Museum of Fine Ats is on the Green Line. Since the Green Line goes to North Station, it would be easier to get to the MFA. Be forewarned, the Green Line branches out and you must get on the right one to end up at the MFA!
To get from North Station to the Red Line (i.e., to get to the Kennedy Library), you can take the Orange line from North Station and transfer at Downtown Crossing, or take the Green Line and transfer at Park Street.

The website for the JFK Library is www.jfklibrary.org. Here's the info to get there: Off Morrissey Blvd., next to UMass Boston campus. Free shuttle service from JFK/UMass T Stop on the Red Line. Free parking. The Museum is fully handicapped accessible.
Admission for adults $8; seniors and students $6; children ages 13-17 $4; children ages 12 and under free. Open: 9am-5pm.
The website for the Museum of Fine Arts is www.mfa.org. Here are the directions: The Museum is easily accessible by the T, from the Green E Line Museum stop, or the Orange Line Ruggles stop. Alternately, the Museum is accessible by taking the 39 bus to the Museum stop, or the 8, 47, or CT2 buses to the Ruggles stop.
The cost is $15 (30 day pass, good for 2 visits in 30 days), and the hours are: Monday and Tuesday: 10 am4:45 pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 10 am9:45 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10 am4:45 pm.

If you want exact schedule of commuter rail (several trains/day, but unless it is rush hour a couple of hours between trains) check on MBTA.com - go to commuter rail section and you can get schedules. Limited food options at either Museum of Fine Arts of Kennedy Library - after your visit to either, head to North End for Italian food before catching your train back to Newburyport. (That is walking distance from North Station).
And hope that weather changes before your visit in a few weeks - coldest weather in 5 years. It was 10 below zero on my deck this AM
