Newark to LAX - best first class airline?
#2
Your choices are limited by the fact that only 3 airlines fly nonstop between EWR and LAX, United, American, and Continental. Unfortunately, nobody flies widebody jets on that route; the biggest appears to be a 757; CO uses mainly 737s and UA uses various Airbuses on the route. AA's 757 in First Class is not especially comfy.
Look at seatguru.com for seat maps, and look at flyertalk.com for reviews of service.
Most people believe the front cabin of Continental these days offers the best experience on domestic itineraries.
Sure you can't schlep over to JFK? Lots of widebody choices there.

Go over to JFK, and fly UA's "p.s." service. Lie-flat seat in First Class, with 68" pitch. Even the business class on these planes should be better than most domestic First Class.
AA also has true first class sleeper service for LAX-JFK.
