Newark to Colmbus Ohio
Hi
I am driving to Columbus from newark NJ I will be picking up the car from Newark airport, will i be far from the freeway, i think its I 78 thanks |
No, from the rental car to 78 West is maybe 10 minutes, at most. They recently expanded the roads around the airport and added a direct entrance to 78. Take 78 Express, however, should you wind up on the local lanes, don't worry, there are several crossovers to the Express.

Thanks Ryan
I am english guy and his family driving from Newark to columbus hope our driving is better than chevy chase in lampoons vacation |
I assume you're taking I78 to the PA Pike to I70. If you're driving at a late hour, I recommend filling up on the PA Pike before getting off. It can be hard to find an open gas station before getting to Ohio.

Just don't bring your grandmother and if you do.... don't tie her on the roof when she expires!
It will be a less than thrilling ride in terms of scenery although parts of PA will have some nicely wooded green, rolling hills and farmland. By the way.... when speed limit is marked 65 mph (which it will be most of the way), you will find that traffic moves at 70 to 75 mph. It's perfectly safe to go 72 - 73 mph or slower - speeding tix are typically issued only to folks exceeding 76 mph or faster. In small towns on local roads you should always carefully obey the speed limit - many small towns rely on speeding tourists and others who pass through to provide revenue from fines for speeding. |
I assume this is a stupid question, but is there any chance you can fly into an Ohio airport (Columbus, Cleveland maybe even Akron/Canton, or Cincinnati)?

Thanks for all your tips, the reason that were flying in to New York and not some place in Ohio, is that were using our Delta ff miles, and for some very strange reason delta had nothing available even though we tried to book 6 months in advance.
But as they are partners with Virgin, they could get us flights to New York with Virgin(which is not that good in coach). So what the hell! i thought it would be cool to have a couple of days in New York then drive to Columbus, it did not seem that far on the map (doh). So hence the driving tips, and i do appreciate them, thanks for all your advice. |
I can understand that one! Sometimes the smaller airports have openings for ff miles that the larger ones don't though, so you could also try Dayton airport - keep checking with Delta. They didn't have a flight we were looking for and we got on a "wait list" - when an opening came up we were able to snag the flights we wanted. Good luck to you!
