Newark or Laguardia
 

We will be going to New York this summer (arriving on Friday late AM and leaving Sunday AM). We can get cheaper flights into Newark but I am curious as to whether it would be a longer commute into Manhatten. Any suggestions on which might be our best bet?

Unless it's a substantial difference (say, $200 a person), personally I'd choose LaGuardia. Newark is a longer ride into Manhattan, and I'd rather spend more time in the City. Besides, LaGuardia is relatively painless-- easy in and out in my experience.

Whoa....it's only about a half-hour more each way from Newark Airport into the city and maybe $20 more each way for a cab. Now, make your judgment whether it's worth it to fly into Newark.

Howard: All true, but I still would choose LGA. I'll pay extra gladly for convenience. That's just me....

I find Newark VERY convenient now that it has the AirTrain - about $12 & 20 minutes to NY Penn Station...but you have to look at a schedule to see when they're running. Even via taxi it's only a 15-minute longer trip to Manhattan than LaGuardia. LaGuardia has more delays, so I tend to fly in & out of Newark anyway even though it's a little further from home.

Another vote for Newark. The Airtrain is excellent, and not affected by traffic delays.

I'm with rj, LaGuardia.

While the Airtrain is relatively easy, you still have to get to your hotel from Penn Station.

Also, I hate having to schlep my luggage on the train. Especially when it's crowded.

LaGuardia. Off the plane, in a cab, right to your hotel door.

Don't get me wrong. All things being equal, I favor Laguardia. But, to save a couple hundred dollars, I'd take the Newark option.

I avoid Newark whenever possible - because their cab situation isn;t the best - often a long wait - and I'm allergic to luggage on any type of public transport. So I would do LGA unless there were no flights available. But that's me - I won;t be inconvenienced to save a few $.
