Newark airport hotels - safety

Any recommendations for a hotel and is the area fairly safe. will only be spending one night. not flying in or out, but meeting someone who is and who is staying at the airport.

I've stayed at the Marriott, the Courtyard and the Wyndham. All were fine.

Oh, I see you were asking about safety outside too. The area is actually awful/industrial, but no idea whether there's an actual safety issue. I wouldn't want to be out driving around looking for someplace to eat.

Newark airport - and the airport hotels - aren;t near downtown Newark. they're at the conjunction of several major highways - with really nothing else there. Unless the hotel has a restaurant (and wouldn't want to try any of them) you would need to head away from the airport- and know where you're goinng.

Casa Dante, a pretty good Italian in Jersey City, is a relatively short cab ride away from EWR.

4* Hotels that come up regularly on Priceline with low rates in Jersey City are the Westin, W, and Hyatt Regency. All are about a 15-20 minute drive from the airport. Jersey City is nice, much nicer that the area around Newark Airport, and would be worth the drive. The hotels are all very nice with magnificent views of the Manhattan Skyline and wonderful dining opportunities within and nearby.
