Newark Airport Hotel
Looking for a decent, convenient, SAFE, clean hotel for a one night stay before an early AM flight.
Would appreciate any suggestions. |
Do not stay at any of the Newark Motels.
The only place I would stay at the Newark Airport is The Marriott. You couldn't pay me enough money to stay at the Ramada, Best Western etc. |
We stayed at the Newark Marriot and it worked out great. We got a fabulous rate on priceline for around $75 a room. Check out biddingfortravel.com to see what bids are being accepted.

Wow, Thanks for the warning. My wife was looking at a Sheraton somewhere near the Airport, but if you think it isn't safe, I'll heed the tip.
Thanks again |
Go Travel and itsv are right on that the Marriott is the preferred stay. I know many who like the Sheraton and stay time after time. For me, if the price is in the same range, I stay at the Marriott.

Is there some evidence that any other hotel is dangerous, or in a dangerous area? I've stayed at the Marriott, and it would be my first choice too, all things being equal, but I've also stayed at the Wyndham and I think the Courtyard, and never had any problem.

dmlove, look up the violent crime rate/statistics for Newark and Elizabeth City.
And the motels are in a very industrial area. I'd stay in the airport before I'd stay at any of those hotels. |
We've stayed at the EWR Marriott several times but there are OTHER hotels in that SAME AREA which I am sure are just as safe.
|
GoTravel, I'll have to respecitively disagree. This is a silly discussion. The crime rates in the Newark area are almost completely irrelevant to people who are going to be spending one night before an early flight.
One thing is true. Because of the isolation unless you are arriving after the dinner hour, you do need to make sure that you have booked a hotel with some kind of meal service (or pack a picnic). There aren't any places to get to easily, and taxis are virtually nonexistent in that part of NJ. But safety is simply not an important issue for hotel stays. Do pick a hotel that people like and recommend, but don't worry about crime. That's a red herring. |
OK ... I should clarify that statement. Safety is always an issue with hotel stays. But the crime rate in Newark/Elizabeth is irrelevant.

Stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot before an early morning flight. It was fine, and the shuttle took us right to the terminal. There is no place in the area to eat, so i agree with the above posters, make sure that you eat elsewhere before checking in. The interesting thing I did notice was the number of folks staying at these hotels to visit NYC, and taking the shuttle to the train to NYC.

I have just returned from the US and stayed two nights at the Holiday Inn Newark airport and it was very good, I would return there to stay again. But I did not find the New Yorkers to be very tourist friendly. |
I recently got the Hilton Newark Airport on Priceline for $55 for one night before an early flight. They had reasonable parking also.
We arrived late and left early (from PA), so there was no need to leave the hotel. What is your concern about safety? My review of the Hilton: http://tinyurl.com/24pxjl ((*)) |
Thanks to all. Sorry if I opened a can of worms with the safety issue, but we are just plain country folk from Pa and I always ask. Sorry to offend.
|
Doug, if you would read my post I stated specifically MOTELS by Newark Airport not HOTELS.
If you don't believe, I'll pay for you to spend the night at the Best Western or Ramada Inn:-d |
If you don't believe
Don't believe WHAT? I don't like motels (vs. hotels) anywhere, but what in particular is the problem with the Ramada and Best Western (or other motels) at Newark airport? |
They are horrible motels with little to no security in horrible locations.
The Marriott is fine. |
We also stayed at the Holiday Inn Newark. It was fine, no problem. Thay have a shuttle to the Airport and have a very nice restaurant. You have some good choices here.
|
I realize this is an old thread, but I just "bought" the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel (Marriott)3 1/2* on Priceline for $59.26. My bid was $45 + taxes. This is for a one night stay in late May.
