Newark airport

1. What is the best way to get from the Amtrak Newark NJ Airport station to the airport?

2. How much time should one allow at the Newark airport to get through security for a 9 AM midweek domestic flight?

Thanks.

The Newark Airport rail station is linked with the airport via monorail. It takes 5-10 minutes for the monorail to get from the rail station to the airport, depending upon which terminal stop you are going to. The monorails run frequently. I don't think I've ever waited more than a few minutes.

Security lines really haven't been too bad at Newark lately. To be safe though, I would budget about 15-20 minutes.

15-20 minutes budgeted and you will miss your plane. Newark is a busy airport most of the time, so figure you will need to arrive there by 7am to get through security, bag search, bag check, etc.

IF you get through earlier than you can relax at your gate and have a bit of breakfast before the flight.

My best suggestion is to make sure you get there early with plenty of time to spare.

I was referring to 15-20 minutes for security, which was the poster's question, not for the entire check-in procedure.

Every time I've flown out of Newark in the morning (probably 5-6 times in the last year) I've arrived 2 hours before my flight - but it's never taken more than 30 minutes to get checked-in and through security. Next time, I plan on 1 hour before take-off.

Amie,

This website will give you some helpful information on taking the AirTrain from the Newark Airport train station to the terminals.

http://www.panynj.com/aviation/monorailframe.htm

Note that "Airlink" is NOT a separate train.

You will be riding an Amtrak or a NJT (New Jersey Transit) train that stops at the airport station. Keep your ticket stub as it's your ticket for the monorail to the airport terminal.

There may my NJT bus service to the airport as well.
