I've heard only that it is a new boutique hotel on the west side (I think), expensive.

I wouldn't call the Skyline a "boutique" hotel and it is not new. It has been around since the early 60's. I would put it on a par with Days Inn . It is on West 49th Street and 10th Avenue, just about 1/2 mile west of Times Square and the nearest subway station. It is in a combination residential/light industry area - faiirly deserted at night except for 10th Ave. traffic. There is a garage attached and Parking may be included. The place underwent renovation about two years ago.

If this is the place recently advertised in my American Express bill, the description is as Doug says. Are we confusing it with something else?

It's very far west, several blocks past anything that you might want to do. On the other hand, it's probably very reasonable, and the Times Square/Hell's Kitchen area has become very chic - there are some very nice, inexpensive restaurants on 9th Ave. in the 40's & 50's.

If you go to www.newyork.citysearch.com you can read the very mixed reviews of the Skyline Hotel. It is not an expensive new boutique hotel!

we stayed at this hotel july 2003 and we got a very good deal on it through expedia. It was considerably cheaper than other hotels offering the same amenities. The pool on the top floor, although not large is a definite bonus after a days sightseeing with the kids. We enjoyed our stay there. Good value for money. It is a little too far west to be an ideal location, but this never caused any problem for us

You may want to read reviews of this hotel on tripadvisor.com. The information is usually very accurate.
