New York Whydham Hotel
 

Does anyone have any info on this hotel? Is it a good location. Will be traveling mid October. <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR>

We stayed there in 10 years ago. The location is great, right near the Plaza Hotel around 57th? The room was fairly large and the bathroom not too up-to-date but may be redone by now. Restaurant over air-conditioned and depressing for breakfast to we would go to Zack's.

An older hotel located on 58th Street just west of 5th Avenue. It is across the street from the Plaza Hotel. Very nice area, one block from Central Park. Theater district is about 3/4's of a mile, south and west. Have read a few positive notes about this place on different message boards. Unless it has been recently renovated hotel has been showing its age.

Sherry, I stayed there two years ago. It was a disappointment. It was dated without being cozy. For example, the lobby has those black and gold marble mirror squares. Do you know the ones I mean? The service bordered on unfriendly. We chose to make as few requests as possible. As stated-the location is tops. <BR> <BR>linda

If you are just looking for a place to sleep, the price and location are great. If you want something nice and comfortable, keep looking.

Do not stay here if you have children or anything resembling a child. Bordering on unfriendly service is being kind. After a few days in the place I was able to befriend a few staff who had to sneak a coffee to my room. Once upon returning I was stopped from entering my room until I confessed to spilling some orange juice on the rug (which I had informed the maid about). It was so bad it was amusing. It was almost scary and I'm from the area. Now I stay at the Mayflower hotel which is wonderful but also older. Ask for one of the 01 rooms which are big suites with a small kithen though no stove or microwave. These rooms overlook the park and the staff is great. (some rooms are not good but they will move you if you ask) Our family of five stays very comfortably. If you are less people you may not need this size room. If you are more the suites connect. In fact they use to be apartments I think. You can even have pets I believe. There are always apples at the front desk.

The Wyndham has large, apartment-like rooms and though people call it "shabby," I found it charming. The hotel's street is dreary, though, and definitely do not have a street-side room because of the noise of the trash and laundry trucks picking up the back of Essex House and the Plaza all night long. Better an airshaft view for the quiet -- there's no view anyway. I didn't find the staff as unfriendly as others here have said. But I would recommend the Mayflower, which is only a block or so away, which gets mediocre reviews on this site for some reason but which has large, lovely rooms and you can get one (and you should) overlooking Central Park.
