New York, Which Airport LGA or Newark

My daughter and I are planning Mother-Daughter trip to New York in the spring. Which airport is the most convenient for getting into the midtown area of New York City? In the past we have gone into Newark, as we were told by friends that being smaller, the airport was less congested. We find that we can get better rates flying into LGA.

First of all - LGA is much smaller than Newark. Second it is faster/cheaper (bay cab) from LGA to midtown. If you get better prices - go for it.

If you get better rates flying into LGA, I would go with that. The time it takes to get to Manhattan from LGA or Newark is about the same by cab. That and it may be cheaper.

you should DEFINITELY fly into LGA. the cab fare to the city is much cheaper.

Thank you so much for the prompt replies, as we are trying to make reservations today. I could not see that it would present a problem going into LGA. Yes, the rates are much better. Thanks everybody.

Cab fare is cheaper from LGA, probably by $20-$25. Public transportation is easier from EWR.

I've experienced more delays in/out of LGA, but not enough to make a difference in chosing one over the other.

No contest - LGA.

Unless Newark is considerably less expensive, don't even consider it.

Enjoy NYC!

Another vote for LGA. Easier in and out.

The 4 of us arrived at LGA on a 8 AM flight, Saturday, January 1 (morning of New Year's Day), got a cab to 7th Avenue & 55th Street, and the cab trip took 20 minutes for $24. There was hardly any traffic the entire ride to mid town. This may not have been a typical Saturday morning arrival since this was a holiday weekend.

Definitely LGA! Most convenient airport to Midtown.

What about JFK? United has some flight deals right now. You can take the subway to midtown. It's easy with rolling luggage and very cheap.
