New York weather check - this weekend

Coming to NY this weekend and YIKES! It's going to rain. I've only been to NY in the winter and spring and i'm coming from California where it never rains in the summer. So I don't know what to expect. What kind of clothing should I prepare for daytime sightseeing and evening dinner and theater? Will it be chilly, or is there enough heat and humidity to keep the temps up? Thanks for your help!

The heat and humidity that keep the temps up can make it miserable. Have you heard of layering you clothes? Take an umbrella and a very light rain coat.

Wear closed shoes and leave your fancy sandals in the room.

Right now in NYC it's about 65 degrees and rainy. I'm wearing closed shoes, long sleeve shirt and pants, and a very lightweight jacket (and I carried an umbrella, outside, of course). When it's this cool at this time of the year (unusual but not impossible), the humidity just makes things wetter--not warmer feeling. The humidity only has that effect when it's already hot!<BR>Make sure you have lightweight layering items--for example, a tank top with a long sleeve shirt, and definitely something vaguely water resistant as a top layer. Daytime, count on wearing lightweight cotton pants (too cool for shorts, and jeans get damp and don't dry quickly in this weather). In the evening, long sleeves (or a light indoor jacket) as the restaurants and theaters are still air conditioned
