New York trip in late autumn

Hi,

I am planning my second trip to NYC and as all the tips I got here for the first were very helpful I would appreciate to hear your opinions on my plans:

Plans are for four days in november and I already have some ideas what to do. I am staying in midtown.

In case my flight gets delayed I am not planning for the first day, maybe I will just stroll through the neighbourhood (maybe someone knows some interesting bookshops around the 5th Ave?) and if possible do Top of the Rock- I will not book in advance and in case I have to stand in line just try to book for early next morning.

Sunday: Top of the Rock (I am an early riser) and as I do enjoy walking, exploring Central Park, having a look at the Guggenheim and generally that area which I enjoyed very much on my first trip.
Any particular tips on what to see/do there this time of the year?
I do not mind if it is cold but in case it`s rainy: what could I do before 11h in this area that is not outdoors? 11h because I want to go to The Frick Collection. I really enjoyed it on my first trip and hope it is not getting too crowded just after opening.

I would appreciate tips on a good place for a relaxed late lunch/snack in that area.

After that I am planning on shopping and wandering around that area- from what I read all the shops seems to be open sundays, am I right?
For the evening I am thinking about a nice independent cinema or a concert.

On monday I am planning to go to Ellis Island- a must for me. After that I want to have a look at the Brooklyn Bridge and maybe either exploring Brooklyn or maybe Soho but am not sure. I realised that so far I havent`t visited the western part of Manhattan.
Any recommendations?

Tuesday is reserved for the Metropolitan Museum: I am planning to come very early in the morning and stay as long as I want which could probably be the whole day.
I am thinking of having lunch at The Boathouse. Would that be a good idea this time of the year and would I need a reservation?

Wednesday will be short as I have to catch a flight at 4h30 from Newark.
I really enjoyed the NYPL last time so I thought I might visit the Morgan Library and Museum and have an early lunch there before taking a bus to the airport at 1h30. It will be the day before Thanksgiving so I guess I have to be early at the airport.
Is this a realistic time frame?

What do you all think of my plans?

I don't live too far from the Frick and I am coming up blank on indoor things on a Sunday before 11 am. The shops on Madison are very high end (great windows). Many of the stores on upper Madison (60's & 70's) are closed on Sunday. I think Prada for example in that area is closed, but the one on 57th is open. Atlantic Grill on 3rd Ave is great for lunch - it's a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Frick.

The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day in the US; I would allow extra time not only to get to Newark, but for check-in and security.

There are rarely bad lines at Top of the Rock. I wouldn't go if it's dark since you miss seeing Central Park which isn't lit at night. It becomes a big black hole.

For Sun., I assume you realize the Guggenheim is up at 88th st. and the Frick is on 70th. While both on Fifth ave., it's a good 20 min. walk between the 2. The Met Museum and the Neue Mus. are inbetween the 2. The Met opens at 9:30 on a Sun. and it's a great time to go. NYers tend to get a late start on Sunday. Cafe Sabarsky in the Neue Gallery is a wonderful spot to sit with coffee and a pastry. While that museum doesn't open til 11 on Sundays, the cafe opens at 9. For lunch after the Frick, it depends on where you plan to shop. If you're heading to midtown, you might try the Boat House in Central Park. If you want to look on the upper east side, Cafe Boulud in the Surrey hotel is very nice and very good. The small shops close around 5-6. Dept. stores like Bloomingdales stay open til 7 or so.

I'm not sure what you mean by visiting the western part of Manhattan. Here's a map with general areas

You can get an idea of what's in which area by clicking on neighborhoods here http://nymag.com/realestate/

Ditto CPG on the day before T'giving. Leave yourself plenty of time to get to the airport and be prepared for delays.

Thank you all for your input so far!

Maybe I should have been more specific:
On sunday I am planning a bit of shopping along 5th Ave. Rockefeller Centre, Saks, Bergdorf...that area.
Thanks for the tip on doing the Met on sunday- will do that and will do some shopping afterwards if I still have time.
I will go to the Frick (and lunch at the Boathouse) instead on tuesday.
And thanks for mentioning the distance between the Frick and the Guggenheim!

After Ellis Island on monday I was wondering what part of Manhattan I could travel to- after a quick look at the Brooklyn Bridge. As I have only been to Soho I thought maybe Greenwich Village would be an idea- or the area around Columbus Circle or west of Central Park (that was what I meant with "western part of Manhattan").
Regarding the airport on wednesday: I thought leaving Manhattan by bus at 1 pm and planning in a generous one hour for the trip will leave me around 2 3/4 hours at the airport. I thought that would be enough, am I wrong?
Should I book a ticket for the bus in advance? Is that possible?
