new york trip help

Hi all,

I need some advice from those who are familiar with Manhattan and the NY City area. I have tickets for a Yankee game on June 5th --a 1 pm game. I am planning to be in Princeton, NJ the day before and I was told I could take the train to New York. I am guessing the train goes to Penn Station but let me know if that is wrong. I will be staying at the Hilton Garden in on 8th Ave (free nights via Hilton Honors). My question is how can I get to Yankee stadium from here? I plan to take the subway, but where do I get on, what train do I take, etc. Thanks so much!

There's a Hilton Garden Inn on 28th and 6th - is that where you're staying? If you are, you can walk to 28th St and 7th Ave and get the #1 train uptown. Take it four stops to 59th St/Columbus Circle and transfer to the B or D train uptown/Bronx. You get off at Yankee Stadium/161st Street in the Bronx and just follow the crowd to the stadium. There are plenty of police around to ask directions.

As far as coming to NYC, I recall there's a big difference in price between Amtrak and NJ Transit. Check both their websites to compare price. I went to Princeton for the day a number of years back and NJ Transit was just fine.

Check your hotel address.

Say hi to Derek for me!

Take the D train to the Stadium; you can pick it up at 48th Street and 6th Avenue, I think.

www.hopstop.com might be useful for your trip.

There's another Hilton Garden Inn in Times Square, 790 8th Avenue. I assume that's where the OP is staying. Scorrell -- it's often helpful to figure out which intersection you're at; in this case, your hotel is at 8th Avenue and 48th Street.

Enjoy your trip!

I am at the Hilton Garden Inn at 790 8th ave, which intersects 48t St, I think. So, I will take the D Train from 48th and 6th Ave. And thanks for the advice about NJ Transit. I will take that one as it is much cheaper. Does it let me off at Penn Station? Thanks again.

Yes, scorrell, NJTransit stops at Penn Station.

Just make sure you go all the way to New York - as there's also a Penn Station in Newark - and whichever train you take will stop there too.

I use NJ Transit all the time with luggage and it is really easy.

Yes, it goes to Penn Station but I don't recommend taking the subway with luggage because it is a PIA.

Try and travel light as Penn Station isn't fun at all with large luggage.
