Someone I worked with liked the place and I've been there for lunch during the workweek. It's ok. Nothing standout-ish.

Do you have access to Zagat's? They have (mostly) reliable descriptions of restaurants. You can also go to several websites that have reviews by 'real' people. I don't have any of them with me. Unfortunately I have a brand new computer and they were all bookmarked on the old one. You can google NYC "restaurant reviews" and you should get more sites than you can read. Good luck!

Oh, I would read a couple different sites. Some reviews are more reliable than others. Best to get a consensus.

Depends on what you want. P & W is not a bad choice. There's an embarrassment of riches in terms of food so you really have to be good to stand out. I'd check out chowhound.com.

Depending on how much you want to spend, and what you're looking for, you might like Bar Americain on W. 52nd Street, or Orso on W. 46th Street, or Eatery on 9th and 53rd, or Thalia at 8th and 50th . . there are many many places . .

Not knowing your taste, I'd hesitantly recommend Thalia - I've eaten many work lunches there. It's totally different from P&W though. Not bar/comfort food, but more fusion. More veggies, less meat.
