How much is the subway? Per ride? two-day pass?

Not sure, but if you google it, I know you will find the info you need, as well as maps of the different train lines, so that you can begin to plan. I recall there are 1 or 2 day tourist passes which can help if you are on the move and using the trains a few times a day.

You can confirm this at mta.info, but I believe that its $2 per ride, and an all-day pass is $7.

the $2 per ride is actually for a two hour time window, I think.

The subway and bus fare in NYC is $2. per ride, no time limit on the per ride basis. Here is a link to the MTA site which gives all the info on the different types of fare cards.

Ok the subway system is actually easier to figure out than you might think.

The website www.mta.com will give you a map of the city and where the trains go so you can get an idea of how extensive the system is, and in many cases you can easily transfer from one train to another and go from east to west.

The fare is $2.00 per ride, and it includes a trasfer to a bus, or you can take a bus and transfer to the subway. The transfer from one to the other has a 2 hour window to use the transfer, that may be the confusion in an earlier post.

There is a one day and a 7 day pass. If you are going to be getting on and off the bus alot in one day than the pass is the way to go, I often get a one day pass when I am going to be running around the city. The one day pass is $7 and the 7 day pass is $20 and you actually get a $24 card, which includes 2 free rides.

The one-day MetroCard is $7, so it is worth the price if you will ride at least four times. It is good until 2 or 3 AM the day after you first use it--not 24 hours. Only one person can use a pass--security measures make it scannable only every 15 minutes or so.

Another way to save, if you buy a regular pay-as-you-go MetroCard, for every $10 (5 fares) you purchase, you get an extra fare free. Up to four people can share a regular MetroCard.

Just to clarify, the info on the $20 metro card is correct but there is no time limit on it's use.

Some confusion . . .

You can purchase a regular card for $20, the same as the $10 one I mentioned and you will get two free fares added, one extra fare for every $10. (If you chose to put $30 on it, you'd get three extra fares . . . and so on.) It has not time limit and can be shared by up to four people.

There is also a 7-day unlimited ride card that costs $24. Only one person can use it.

At http://www.hopstop.com/ you can put in your location and destination, it will map out the subway and/or bus route for you and give an estimate of how long the trip will take.
