New York Subway
We are considering staying at the Embassy Suites in Lower Manhattan this summer, is this close to a subway station that is open? Or are they still in repair following 911? Will probably be there around August, 2003. Also, which airport is the best to fly into to reach this hotel? Newark, LaGuardia or Kennedy? Thanks, for any help, first trip to New York.

Newark is always the best airport to fly into in my estimation. You can be at your hotel from the airport usually in less time than from JFK and I never ever fly into LaGuardia!
Can't say about the subways.
You will love New York!

HI 4k,
All subway stations in Lower Manhattan are open except the one that was in the center of the WTC complex. The Embassy Suites is a very quick walk (7 minutes) to the Chambers St. or Rector St. stations where you can catch most of the major subway lines. It is easy to get to downtown Manhattan from any of the three airports by taxi. There is a bus service to and from Newark Airport that stops on Church St., just a few blocks from the Embassy Suites if you are looking for a cheaper way to and from an airport. Just write me directly if you have any more questions.

there have been several questions lately specifically about this hotel and the subway access.

Yes, there are are subways in the area (all stations except the one directly at the WTC have been reopened) but the hotel is a bit removed -- basically it's across the "highway" (really just a large street now) and several blocks away. It's not very far, but a bit of a trek...

Techincally Newark is probably the closest airport, but if you take a cab, it's the most expensive to get there of the 3 airports . The cheaper transportation alternatives (busses, trains) don't go to that part of town so you'd have to add the time and expense of another cab ride or subway/bus/walk, etc.
Price all three airports and if one is much cheaper, take that one

(didn't know about the bus that goes from Newark to Church street-- I stand corrected. Whether it's worth it or not also depends on how many passengers. For more than 2 people,a cab starts looking better)

I prefer LaGuardia because it doesn't seem as big and overwhelming as JFK or Newark. I would skip JFK altogether.
