New York Restaurants with Children
 

I will be in New York this weekend and next week with my wife and 12 year old daughter and 9 year old son. My wife, daughter and I have all been to NY before but this is my son's first trip and so the trip is centered around him. Can anyone recommend restaurants that would be an unforgettable experience for a 9 year old boy? I know Tavern on the Green is considered over-rated and my wife and I have eaten there multiple times. We will be staying near Times Square. I appreciate any input.

The view from Foley's Fish House in the Renaissance is quite spectacular of Times Square. They are also one of those rare restaurants that has food and a view.

The Intrepid Air Space Museum is housed in an air craft carrier. That is a Do Not Miss for a nine year old boy.

What does he like to eat? If he likes baseball, take him for lunch at Mickey Mantle's (don't bother for dinner). My son always loves going down to little italy for dinner.

There are all the usual theme and chain restaurants (ESPN, Mars 2012, Jeckyll and Hyde), mostly in the TIme Sq area but I personnaly am not a fan of those. My kids have been there for birthday parties when they were little, and don't even remember. They tend to be overpriced mob scenes with poor to average food.

You might try Ellen's Stardust Diner - which has singing wait staff. Regular diner food - not bad but nothing to write home about - but kids like it. (About 10 times better than the chain places - which in NYC are much more expensive than at the local mall.)

They might think Ruby Foo's is cool. It has very red, Asian-style decor with a huge Buddha statue. They serve family-style, pan-Asian food.
