New York New York- do you like it?

I'm going to Vegas for the first time this December. Where should I stay that's not too expensive? I want fun, good location, unique, etc. What do you think of New York New York?

hmmm went last Christmas and stayed in the Bellagio in a Penthouse suite and it was great. If you are trying to be a little more budget minded maybe Paris it has a great theme, great location etc. I would also try Monte Carlo for good deals. December is a pretty good time to get some deals. New York New York looks like fun also, but I never stayed there.

NYNY is a good mid-priced property. Decent rooms, nice casino, a couple of good restaurants, decent location. I've stayed there in the past but not for a couple of years. For a comparison, I would put it in the same category as Monte Carlo and Paris.

NYNY is a fun hotel to visit, but I'm not so sure I would want to stay there. It's always chaotic, which makes it fun to drop in on, but seems a bit much if you're spending a lot of time there. Also, the rollercoaster zooms around the hotel day and night, and while I don't expect quiet in Las Vegas, I could do without 25 people screeching every four minutes.

For the first time you want to be in the center of the strip - Belagio, Caesar's, Paris, Flamingo, Harrah's - depending on what price you're looking for and what's your age.

the rollercoaster really isn't a bother. Most of the time it's running you won't be in your room. Even if you are, it really isn't all that noisy. I don't think it really is important to be center strip even on your first time. NYNY isn't exaclty remote - there are other hotels around it. If you want to see the center strip hotels, it's a pretty easy trek via monorails, cabs, or just walking (esp. in December).

I'll admit, I haven't stayed in NYNY but would agree that staying in the middle of the strip is preferable. New York is at one far end, and it's a loooonngg walk to the Mirage, Treasure Island and the Venetian. And seeing all of the free stuff in the casinos is half the fun!

I've stayed at Bellagio (fantastic room, great service, pretty expensive) and Bally's (large old room, horrible pool), and have also spent meeting room time at Caesars and the pool, and would have to say that Caesars seems the best for the price. If nothing else, their pool is amazing (although so is Bellagio's). The location is also perfect.

While I agree that Caesar's is a better hotel than NYNY, it will be significantly more expensive.

Thanks everyone! I think I might go with Paris or Flamingo instead based on your comments. I really appreciate you taking the time to inform me! We all work hard all year to pay for our vacations so opinions really help to make them the best they can be. :)
