New York New York
Has anyone any info on the Irish Pub (not sure of the name) at NY NY - do they have a show - is the food good?
|
Which of the 10,000 Irish Pubs in New York are you talking about?
|
The one on that avenue, right?
|
He didn't say 'in' NY NY, he said 'AT' NY NY... which leads me to think of Las Vegas.
|
There is no "Irish Pub" per se at NYNY in Vegas. Besides, what would the show be? Someone dressed as a leprauchan beating the tar out of a drunk tourist with a sheleighleigh?!
There IS a "Coyote Ugly" bar there. A theme joint, based on the appallingly bad movie of the same name. If pretty girls mixing drinks and shaking their booties floats your boat, yeah, there's a show. Doesn't sound very Irish to me, but hey, I've never been to Ireland. Do all the barmaids there have breast implants too...?! |
Arrrrrgh! Coyote Ugly IS NOT a bar about a movie. The bar was around a long time before the movie and the original in NYC is actually pretty fun, and none of the girls had implants when I was there. Even in the movie, do any of those girls have implants? hmm...negative female stereotypes...
Anyway, the bar in Vegas is probably Nine Fine Irishmen, probably not open yet, it will have a show, probably some fiddler type thing, but I kinda like rjw's idea, excellent use of "sheleighleigh"! |
Being a travel agent, I do know that there is a Irish pub in New York New York. The name is "9 Fine Irishman"
They usually have a band in the evening, or they do the Irish Jig. They also serve breakfast if you are interested, I have not eaten there but have heard the food in excellent. |
Being that I have walked fairly recently through NYNY, and just checked their website, I can tell that currently there is NO Nine Fine Irishmen at NYNY. It is slated to open later this month.
|
Actually, the original bar the movie is about is Hogs & Heifers. Coyote Ugly came about after the movie.
|
I was recently in NYNY too, but can't remember if I saw an Irish pub or not. In fact, I can't remember much of anything of that night, outside of the fact that I do remember rolling dice and at some point in the evening had to change my pants.
But I do remember being there, which is what made me think that 'hellothere' was asking about Vegas. I personally checked the NYNY website, and it appears that RJW wins. No Irish pub. |
Uh, Coyote Ugly did not come about after the movie. It's been around since '92.
"The movie is ever so loosely based on a 1993 story in GQ magazine by Elizabeth Gilbert about her wasted days and nights behind and atop the real life bar for which Coyote Ugly is named. The picture's principle set, however, looks like it was built straight from the blueprint of Hogs & Heifers, another NYC redneck bar of infamous repute, complete with bras dangling from the rafters and a bald biker bouncer overseeing the seedy proceedings." |
The NYNY outpost of Coyote Ugly opened in late 2001, I think-- after the movie. I have my doubts that they would have settled on this particular theme had the film not set it in their overheated little heads.
And Blenroth, thanks for backing me up on Nine Fine Irishmen. There is actually a news release on the NYNY website, but you have to really hunt for it. It's NOT about "winning"-- it's about getting accurate news out. It will open soon, sure, but one shouldn't offer PR presskits as "fact" until you're sure the venue is actually open...!!! |
I was in the New York City East Village location in 1997. I don't know exactly when it opened but I know I was not in the middle of an acid trip hallucinating about where I was and what year it was. Why do people make up nonsense garbage about places they've never even been? And despite what the travel agent says, my host at NYNY in Vegas said that Nine Fine Irishmen IS NOT open. NEVER HAS BEEN. Maybe it opened yesterday and he just doesn't know...possible. Whomever said the food is great is full of crap!
That is why I never trust travel agents. |
Now Loki, no one is doubting that you've been to the NYC Coyote Ugly, which is indeed in the East Village and a lot of fun. All I'm saying is that the NYNY version is basing its "theme" more on the movie than on the NYC reality. We're talking Vegas after all-- don't bother the rubes with reality, give them purty lights and noises!
