Sorry, but I don't think there's any way you'll be back from Ellis Island/Statue of LIberty by noon. I can't see you getting back before 1, so I'd suggest Chinatown for some Dim Sum and then back to the hotel to leave for the airport. Whatever you do, you should plan an activity for downtown.
If you don't want to defer Chinatown for that day, then visit 1) The excellent Museum of Jewish Heritage at the northern end of Battery Park (a short walk from the Statue of LIberty ferry). Or 2) Take the suggestion of walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. Or 3) Do Ground Zero that day. Since there's really nothing to see at Ground Zero (just the construction site and a few placards at the PATH station), it takes virtually no time. This way you'll maximize your time. |
Tenement Museum is a must ,my teenage niece really enjoyed it,buy tickets online in advance, the Corvino tour has a young actress that is excellent, have fun!
This is a group of 40. There's no way the Tenement Museum tours could accommodate them all at the same time. |
I agree that is unlikely you will have that much free time that afternoon if you're doing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. However, if you do find yourself with a window of time while you're downtown, you could visit the Amazon exhibit that is currently in South Street Seaport. It's only in NY until July (and Wednesdays through Sundays). It seems like the kind of thing kids that age would enjoy and not something they're likely to have another opportunity to see. There are discounted tickets for groups. More info on the link below (click on "NYC edition" on the upper left). Have a great visit!

Just returned from a weekend with my grandkids who loved the NBA Store on 5th Ave. When at Ground Zero, the small but extremely well done museum left a strong impact on us.Don't miss it!!

Hi Cindy,
The first thing that you need to consider is the location of the group at 12 pm, what your mode of transportation is and where you have to be at 3 pm to determine the best places to visit. If you are traveling by public transportation stay under ground as much as possible. This way you can travel farther faster. The group will also have allocate time to eat. If you are in midtown you can easily travel to Harlem, see the Apollo eat and have a walking tour of the area without a problem. If you are interested go to http://www.welcometoharlem.com and see that you can do for you at a very affordabel price. Most visits don't think of visitng Harlem and they are truly missing out on a wonderful neighborhood. |
